COMBINED COLLAPSIBLE GARMENT HANGER AND PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, 14, 1922 Application filed March 18,1921. Serial No. 453,316.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GAnIunLLn Lirr, a citizen of the United States, and resident of 126 Greene Ave, New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, iave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Collapsible Garment Hangers and Protectors, of which the following is a specification. y
This invention relates to combined collapsible garment hanger and protector.
An object of this invention is to provide a simple, efficient and effective combined garment hanger and protector which may be easily collapsed when not in use.
Another object of this invention is to pro vide in such a device a pair of arms of equal lengths pivotedly secured in such manner as to form a generally continuous horizontal bar or rod when in operative position.
Still further objects of this invention are to provide in such a device a bag or other suitable covering which may be suspended from or supported by said arms thereby protecting articles hung on the hanger portion of the device from the effects of extraneous matter, such as dust, and means provided at the free ends of said arms for attaching said covering.
d/Vhen garments are hung in a closet by means of plain hangers, it almost invariably happens that, after they have remained there for a time, dust and other extraneous matter collects on the collars, shoulders and the upper portion of the sleeves. This invention provides a very simple means for protecting the garments against such collection and which may be readily collapsed when not in use.
The above and further objects in view will more fully be understood from the following description together with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which Fig. 1 is afront view, partly in cross section showing a preferred embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a top view of same with the covering partly broken away.
Fig. 3 1s a view showing a preferred :torm
of bag or covering. V
Flg. 1 illustrates part of a modified form of an arm forming part of th s invention.
In the drawings there is disclosed a hook 11 provided with a vertical extension 12, the latter terminating in a bend 13.
Hook 11 is flattened out at both sides 14- ust below the hook portion leaving shoulders 15. These shoulders, two in number, are disposed on opposite sides and ends to provide stops for arms 16.
A pair of arms or covering supports 16,01? equal lengths, bent and flattened at each 01 their ends 1?, are pivotedly or swingably secured at the latter ends 17 to portion 1 1 of hook 11 by means of a rivet or pin 18. Being plvoted, arms 16 are capable of being collapsed in a direction towards the upper portion of hook 11. The ar ns are held in operative position by means of stops or shoulders 15 on hook 11, thereby forming a generally continuous horizontal bar or rodwhen in treme downward position. The "free ends of arms 16 are provided with perforations or pyes 19 for the purpose explained herein be Pivotedly secured to extension 12 of hook 11 by means of rivet or pin 20 are the shoulder members 21, being preferably shorter in length than arms 16. These shoulder members are formed with suitable dies by bending, shaping, and twisting so as to conform generally to those shown in Fig. 1.
The ends 22 of shoulder members 21 are shaped so as to form eyes through which pin 20 passes, the other ends 23 of which are spread so as to fit into vertical grooves formed in extension 12 of hook 13, thereby holding the shoulder members in operative position. Being pivoted, the latter are capable of being collapsed in the same direction as arms 16.
The bag or covering 24L is mad-e to any desirable length and has a hole 25 formed at the centre of its closed endso as to permit hook 11 -to pass therethrough.
This bag is made from any suitable material and is adapted to rest, in inverted position, on arms 16. In order to keep said bag or covering in position it is attached to arms 16 at the eye portions 19, in any suitable manner. V
Instead of bag 21 any other suitable covering may be used in a similar way, so long as the desired object is attained, namely to protect dust and the like from settling on top of the garments hung on shoulder members 21 and bond 13. For instance, a piece of creton may be suspended from arms 16. The creton may be permanently attached to arms 16 at eye portions 19 by suitable means.
Having thus described her invention, the
applicant reserves for herself the right to make alterations and amendments within thev scope of her invention.
What is claimed is:
1.. A collapsible garment hanger and pro t-ector comprising in combination, a hook provided with a vertical extension curved at its end, said hook being flattened on both sides just below the hook portion, said flattened portions being provided with shoulders on opposite sides and ends, a pair of arms, each having one of their ends bent and flattened, said arms being pivotedly secured at their bent portions to the flattened portion of said hook in such manner, that when said arms are in extreme downward position, they form a practically continuous horizontal bar, a pair of shoulder members pivotedly secured to said hook extension below said arms, and a covering adapted to be suspended by said arms. 1
2. A collapsible garment hanger and protector comprising in combination a hook provided witlra vertical extension, a pair of arms of equal lengths pivotedly secured to said hook and adapted to form a continuous horizontal bar when in operative position, said arms being provided at their free ends with perforations, a pair of shoulder members pivotedly secured to said hook extension below said arms, and a bag adapted to be supported in inverted position by said arms.
3. A collapsible garment hanger and protector comprising in combination a hook provided with a vertical extension curved at its end, a pair of arms swingably secured to said hook adapted to open so as to form a generally contmuous horizontal bar when in operative position, said arms being provided at their free ends with eyes, a pair of shoulder members swingably secured at said hook extension below said arms, and
means supported byand secured to said arms for protecting articles contained within said means, from the effects of extraneous matter.
