UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
AMUSEMENT APPARATUS.
Patented Feb. 14, 1922.
Application filed September 4, 1920. Serial No. 408,341.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IDA L. M. SHAOKLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVatertown, in the county of Codington and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Amusement Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an amusement apparatus of which certain parts can be used as a merry-go-round, a teeter-totter, and in combination with a particular ladder construction can be used as a slide.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel amusement board which can be used for different classes of amusement for children.
Vith this and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangementof parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention,
Fig. 2 shows a side view of my invention as would be used as a teeter-totter,
Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of my invention as would 'be used as a merry-goround,
Fig. 4 shows a side view of the ladder construction used in combination with the board to form a slide,
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section of a portion of the ladder, and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of the pivotal point on which the board operates.
Referring to the drawings like numerals designate like parts in the various drawings.
7 indicates a stand with suitably spaced portions for steadying the same and keeping the main portion thereof in an upright position. The upper end of this stand is provided with a ball-shaped pivotal point 8. 9 is an outwardly extended locking arm from the board 10 and being centrally positioned thereto. The locking-arm 9 is provided with a cup-shaped opening at its lower end toreceive the ball-shaped member 8 as at 11. The opposite ends of the board 10 may be curved up slightly and is provided at its under end with feet 12 extending downwardly thereof.
From the description so far, I have described my construction as will be used for a teeter-totter or as a merry-go-round.
In amusement parks such construction would be of advantage if it could be readily turned into a slide and for this purpose I provide a ladder 20 having a hingedly connected set of rails 21, which rails are connected together at their free end by a cross member 22. The sides of the ladder and the sides 21 are further connected by braces 23, which braces 23 are hinged near the centre. Fro-m these respective hinge points a downwardly extending arm 24 is positioned which hinges with the arm 25, the latter having its free end attached to the ladder 20. One set of feet 12 is provided with openings as at 26 and a rod extends through these openings and is suspended at the hinged ends of the members 2e and 25 as at 27. The upper step of the ladder 28 has a hinged extension platform which fits over the upper end of the board 10 so that a platform is provided and in this way children can walk up the ladder. over the platform and slide down the board 10.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction of my invention will be clearly understood, and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What I claim as new is,-
An amusement apparatus consisting of a. stand having its upper end ball-shaped, a board, a supporting arm centrally positioned from the under side of said board, said supporting arm being provided with an opening which may be tiltably and rotatably positioned on said ball-shaped end of said stand, feet suitably positioned on the under side of the respective ends of said board, side members, a ladder having its upper end hinged to said side members, the lower ends of which side members are attached together by a strip fitting under said board, the other end of said board being suspended from braces supported from said sides and said ladder and the upper step of said ladder being provided with a hinged platform adapted to be positioned over the end of said board when in use.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
IDA L. vM. SHACKLE.
