INJECTOR Specication f Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 7, 41922.
.Application led December 23, 1920. Serial No. 432,817.
To @ZZ/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL BLAUHoR-N, engineer, a citizen of the Republic kof Austria, residing at Vienna Austria, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Injector, of which the following is a specilcation.
In an injector suitable for feeding a boiler and in which the opposing pressure is greater than the steam pressure, the smallest cross section of the nozzle is at the part of the delivery nozzle'which is turned towards the steam inlet. At this part the water jet has the greatest velocity and a pressure which approximates atmospheric. In the delivery nozzle itself the velocity energy is changed into pressure energy and the highest pressure is yattained at the end of the delivery nozzle.
Measurements of the pressure relations. in the delivery nozzle show .that the pressure rapidly rises in the first half of the nozzle according to a hyperbolic law and then more slowly attains the maximum or {inal pressure.
If the length of the delivery nozzle measured from the smallest cross section to the outlet is l5 times the diameter of the smallest cross section, a proportion which is usually main` tained when no constructional'limits are set to the length of the injector, the pressure in the first half of the delivery nozzle is about three quarters of the maximum pressure.
Experiments on the pressure relations in the delivery nozzle also show that the pressures, probably in consequence of eddies, are very unequal directly adjacent that part of the nozzle which is of the smallest cross section and on that side of said part which lies toward the delivery end so that shocks rapidly succeeding one another occur which gradually become less towards the end of the nozzle. These shocks are detrimental to the working of the injector since apparatus with short delivery nozzles can work without overflow loss only within narrow limits of the steam pressure. But even in delivery nozzles having the normal length the apparatus works better if the shocks can be lessened in the first half ofv the pressure nozzle. This advantage is obtained by the present invention, which consists essentially in the provisionvof a space which is connected with the interior of the dellvery nozzle andis otherwise completely closed. It is preferable that the connection with the delivery nozzle should be made at a Vpoint located at-less than onev half the distance between that part of the nozzle which is of smallest cross-section and the delivery ing cone, 3 the delivery nozzle of the injector, 4 is a. s enclosing the nozzle 3 and connected wlth the interior of the nozzle by an annular opening 5. Instead of the annular connecting opening 5 a series of perforations or channels might be provided. The space 4 acts during the operation of the injector as an air chamber which takes up the shocks within the delivery nozzle, especially where they are most violent.
The injector, consequently, feeds within certain limits more smoothly than it would without the space 4.
1. An injector of the type. embodying a delivery nozzle of the tapered form having a chamber in communication with the interlor of the delivery nozzle.
2. An injector according to claim l in which the chamber communicates with the delivery nozzle within the Vfirst half of the length of the lnozzle measures from the smaller end.
3. An injector according to claim 1 wherein the chamber surrounds the nozzle and communicates with the nozzle at a point nearer that part thereof which isof smallest cross-section than .to that part thereof which is of largest cross-section.
4. An injector accordin to claim l wherein the chamber commumcates with the interior of the delivery nozzle. at a point lom hand.
