WITNESSES @WW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM B. GATES, OF WILKINSIBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T0 FRANKLIN E. STURGEON, OF TARENTUM, PENNSYLVANIA.
MOP WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J an. 31, 1922.
Application filed December 9, 1919. Serial No. 343,502.
To all whom it, may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. GATEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Nringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mop wringers, and more particularly to a mop wringer designed to be readily applied to and disconnected from a bucket.
The prime object of the present invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of the character mentioned of relatively light weight and of such a construction that it may be applied to and removed from buckets or pails of the usual and well known construction.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates an application of myinvention,
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of a bucket showing the mop wringer applied thereto;
Fig. 2, an elevational view of a bucket showing my invention embodied therewith;
Fig. 8, a front view of the mop wringer removed from the bucket; and
Fig. 4, a horizontal sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a pail or bucket of the usual construction having a flange or rim 2 and a handle 3.
The mop wringer, as illustrated and as preferred, includes a supporting plate or ele ment 4 shaped to conform with a portion of the bucket. Said element 4 is designed to project above the rim 2 of the bucket and is provided with end lugs 5 and a central lug 6. Said lugs are adapted to extend downwardly over and engage the rim 2 of the bucket. The central lug 6 is formed with a threaded opening 7 adapted to receive a threaded bolt or pin 8, the latter having a thumb piece 9 for convenience in adjusting the bolt relatively to the outer surface of the bucket to which the mop wringer is attached.
From the above, it will be noted that the central lug 6 cooperating with the adjust able pin 7 provides a simple and convenient clamping means for securing the member 4 to the bucket, and that the lugs 5 aid in maintaining said member in the desired operative position. v
Secured to the element 4 and adapted to be supported in operative position on the bucket by said element is a basket-like structure 10.
As illustrated and as preferred, the basket j structure which is adapted to receive the mop, not shown, is formed of wire, and is soldered to or otherwise connected with its supporting element 4. As shown, said basket has a portion thereof directly connected .7
for wringing the mop. The inverted coneshaped bottom holds'the mop while it is being twisted, thus enabling a coil to be formed, so that when pressure is exerted by a downward thrust of the mop handle, the mop is effectively wrung.
While a wire basket of the character shown and the means illustrated for attaching the basket to its supporting elementprovide a simple and efficient construction, the mop receiving member or basket may be oi any openwork or other suitable construction adapted to receive a mop and cooperate in the operation of wringing. Said mop receiving structure maybe riveted orotherwise secured to its supporting element.
Attention is called to the fact that the element 4 extends upwardly beyond the upper edge of the bucket, thus providing means for preventing water, etc., during the operation of wringing, from running over the top of the bucket.
What I claim is:
A mop wringer including a basket structure comprising an inverted truncated cone shaped body portion and an inverted cone shaped bottom portion, a supporting element secured directly to the basket, an arm secured to the basket and projecting therefrom and attached to the supporting mem WILLIAM GATES.
