' Specification of Letter! Yatent.
Patented Jan. 24, 1922.
Applieatin' filed September 21, 1920. Serial No. 411,745.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD HEINZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borou h of Queens, in the county of Queens ant? State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Easel Displays, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention re ates to folding easel displays and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, or simple construction and efiicient in operation.
'lothese ends and others which will be more particularly pointed out herein, my
improvements comprise features illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the draw ing accompanying this specification, where- 111 Figure l is a perspective view of the device erected for display. Fig. 2 is a perspective; view of lapsed condition. Fig. 3 is anenlarged edge view of the device in fully collapsed condition and looking in the direction of arrow 3 of Fig. 2, assuming the showing of said Fig; 2 to bewholly collapsed or folded. F ig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a modified form of the supporting member. The scale of Figs. 1, 2 and 4 is the same; the scale of Fig. 3 is about twice that of the other figures.
My improved display comprises displa card 2 of any desired profile, having a fold ing score line 4 transversely or horizontally thereacross, preferably about midway its height, thus dividing said card or member into two articulated portions. Supporting member 5 is primarily of the usual vertically foldable design but characterized by having an upper ear 6' secured to the upper portion 2 of card 2, and a lower car 6 secured to the lower portion 2 of said card, Fig. 4. If desired, ears 6'' and 6* may be made continuous lengthwise, thereby forming oneear extendarticulated to said her and extending from score line 8'. Said wing 7 may be set at [right angles to ear 6 and card 2 for support ing said card as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Said member 5 may be provided with some the device in partially 001- wing 7 to convenient means for lockin it in" its extended position, such as late 14 .of known character.
Said supporting member 5 is provided with three transverse and preferably parallel, equally spaced score lines 9, 10, 11, preferably normal to score line 8 and preferably located about midway the height of said member 5, and extending across both wing 7 and ear 6. Said score lines provide two intermediate members 12, 13, articulated to each other alon line 10 and articulated to the upper and lower portions of the sup porting member 5 along lines 9 and 11, respectively. This construction ermits the outward folding ofv said vmem is 12, 13 when wing 7 is folded flat against card 2 Fig. 2, whereby said card 2 may be folded along line 4 into substantially half the area occupied in its extended condition, Figs. 2 and 3. When the two sections 2, 2 of card 2 are unfolded into one plane, members 12, 13 of supporting member 5 unfold into parallelism therewith, themby permitting be opened out and locked into supporting position, Fig. 1.
I claim:
1. In a folding easel display the combination of a display member comprising twoportions horizontally articulated, and a supporting-member comprising an upper and'a lower portion provided with two intermediate portions horizontally articulated to one tically articulated respectively to the two display member portions.
2. In a folding easel display the combination of a display member comprising two portions horizontally articulated, a supportmg member comprising an upper and a lower portion provided with twointermediate portions horizontally articulated to one another and to said upper and lower portions respectively, said upper and lower portions of the supporting member being vertically articulate respectively to the two display member portions, and means for lockmg said supporting member in a plane transverse the plane of said display member when in erected position.
3. In a folding easel display the combination of a display member comprising'two portions horizontally articulated, and a supporting member comprising an earportion and a wing portion vertically articulated, said supportin member also comprising an upper and a ower portionprovided with two intermediate portions horizontally articulated to one another and to said upper and lower portions res ectively, the ear portions of said upper an lower portions being fixed to the two portions of the supporting member of said displa member respectively.
4. In a folding ease display the combination of a display member comprising two portions horizontally articulated, a supporting member comprisin an ear portion and a wing portion vertica 1y articulated, said RICHARD HEINZ.
