IMPROVEMENT IN DASH-BOARD BAGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,416, dated July 1,1873; application filed April 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HIPKISS, of Uharlestown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Dash-Board Bag, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view ofmy improved dash-board bag, as applied to a carriage; and Fig. 2 is a rear View of my bag, showing spring-hooks for attaching it to dash-board.

The object of my invention is to furnish to the public a neat, strong, and water-proof bag for dash-boards ofcarriages of all kinds, which may be readily taken 011' and placed on another board, as required, and which will not interfere at all on entering the carriage, being an ornamental appendage to the same. My invention consists of a strong main piece of leather, to the upper part of which strong springhooks are attached, which are slipped over the dash-board. The bag is applied below the hooks, with suitable elastics to prevent the bag from expanding too much and protrude too far into the carriage.
In the drawing, A represents the dash-board of a carriage, to which is slipped over its upper edge the bag B, by means of strong springhooks O. The spring-hooks O are riveted or otherwise connected with the main or rear piece a of bag B, and fit tightly over the dashboard, so that the bag cannot loosen its hold by the jerking of the carriage. Gilt plates 1) are placed in front, over the hooks O, to have name and residence engraved thereon. The bag A is placed below plates b, and has elastic bands (I applied to the sides over the 'gussets, keeping the bag fiat when empty,
and the contents well secured when filled. The flap e is also secured to buttons f by flexible straps, for the same purpose. The bag will therefore be not too bulky, and not interfere with the occupants of the carriage, but offer the great advantage of a detachable bag, which may be taken into the store, the goods well packed, and then replaced to the board. It may be changed from one carriage to another, and taken into the house to unpack the goods, and prevent the theft of the bag.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A bag or receptacle, 13, provided with springhooks 0, adapted for attachment to the dashboard of a vehicle, in the manner set forth.
