Description
H. R. RUSH.
WELL CASING SWAGE.
APPLICATION FlL-ED JAN-31,1921.
1,403,570, Patented Jan. 17,1922.
E i /0 I l UNITED STATES HENRY R. RUSH, OF SEDAN, KANSAS.
WELL-CASING SWAGE.
T 0 all whom it may; concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY R. RUSH, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Sedan, in the county of Chautauqua and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Well-Casing Swages, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in well casing swages and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with the casings ofdeep wells and the like, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the same may be employed to repair a well casing which may have collapsed or which has been heavily dented.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement or" the several parts of my im proved well casing swage whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a view in side elevation of a well casing swage constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, and
Figure 2 is a view partly in elevation and partly in longitudinal section of the device as illustrated in Figure 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, S denotes the spindle of the swage and which comprises an elongated shank 1 provided at its lower or working end with a tapered or pointed head 2. Loosely mounted upon the shank l is a swage thimble 3 of a length less than the length of the shank l and which thimble 3, when applied, contacts with the shoulder 4; provided by the upper end of the head 2.
The periphery of the thimble 3 is in con- Specification of Letters Patent, Patented Jan, 1'7, 1922. Application filed January 81, 1921.
Serial No. 441,419.
with the slots 8 which are adapted to regis ter with the slot 9 in the shank 1. A wedge or key 10 is insertible through the registering slots 8 and 9 whereby the parts comprised in my improved tool are effectively maintained in assembled relation.
7 The thimble 3 may be readily removed by withdrawing the key or wedge 10 and upon disengaging the tool joint 6. It is of particular advantage to have the thimble 3 readily removable so that thimbles of different sizes may be employed as may be occassioned by the bore of the casing to be repaired.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a well casing swage constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
A well casing swage comprising a shank provided with a pointed head at one end, a thimble loosely mounted upon the shank above the head, a tool joint having a socket in one end to receive the upper end portion of the shank, and means for coupling the tool joint and the shank.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
HENRY R. RUSH.
