implication filed January 2 may concern:
e i. known that l, EDWIN S Mix, acitizen o United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of lave invented certain new and L lnprovements in Electric Connecs A T do hereby declare the followt ear. and exact description suc;. as will enable others lich it appertains to to means for elecs, strips, or other employed in dynai and other electrical ap- In d nenio-electric machines, and electrical apparatus of other kinds, it is frequently necessary to connect two conductors ch or cross substanti lly at a right i r this purpose the sleeves Sl: is ices which are commonly emnloyed in connect ns between conductors are not suitable. inc object. of the present inventio--. accordingly, is to provide means particularly adapted for making connections between such angularlyarranged conductors. To this end it is proposed to employ a connector consisting of a sheetmetal member having the form of a cross, this member being arranged with its bodyportion interposed between the adjacent surfaces of the conductors, while the arms of the cross are bent in pairs around the respective conductors, the whole being preferably solidified by the use of solder between the adjacent surfaces of the conductor and the connector.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a side-elevation or" an electric connection formed in accordance with the present invention: Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the connection shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an end-elevation, partly in section, of a portion of the field-magnet assembly of a dynamoelectric machine in which the coils of the field-winding are connected in accordance with the present invention; and Fig. 4 shows the sheet-metal connector employed in the illustrated connection.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the invention is shown as employed in forming the connection be- Specification of Letters Patent.

tween any two conolnctors 5 and 6 of similar cross-section, these conductors being relatively wide and meeting, at their ends, at a right angle. in forming the connection a sheet metal member in the form of 2 Geneva cross, as shown Fig. 4, is employed. This connector comprises a central body-portion a pair of oppositely disposed arms 8, and another pair of oppositely disposed arms 9. The body-portion 7 is interposed bet eenthe adjacent wide surfaces of the conductors 5 and 6, the arms 8 are then a. l the outer sur We oi e conductor 5, and the arms 9 are bent si rly around tne edges and outer suriace of e conductor 6. By means of this con ct alon a joint is formed of considers mechanical strength, with a ow GlcCCllCEil resistance due to contact. for greater is prefen ably solidified by s 5; together all of die meetingsurfaces of metal.
Fig. 3 illustrates the aspect of the invenc1011 in whi h it is particularly applicable to a dynamoctric machine. In this machine the conolnctor 5 is shown as constitutin the winding upon one of the four polar projections 11 of the machine, this winding sing arranged so the width of the metal in the conductor is parallel with the axis of the coil. The conductorcG constitutes an intermediate conductor, for the purpose of connecting together the corresponding terminals of two successive coils. In this conductor the width of the metal is normal to the axes of the coils, and the ends are bent outwardly so as to lie parallel with, but at right angles to, the ends of the condoctors 5. thus bringing the wide fiat surfaces of the terminals and the intermediate conductor into parallel and proximate positions. The ends of the conductors are secured together in this position by means of connectors such as that of Fig. 4-.
The invention claimed is:
1. Inan electric connection, the combination of two wide and fiat conductors aranged substantially at a right angle, with their wider surfaces parallel and overlapping; and a cross-shaped sheet-metal connector, of which the body-portion is interthe edges and against posed between the adjacent surfaces of the conductors, and. the arms are bent, in pairs, respectively around the two conductors.
2. In an electric connection, the combination of two Wide and fiat conductors arranged substantially at a right angle, with their Wider surfaces parallel and overlapping; and a crossshaped sheet-metal conznesnee nectora of which the body-portion is interposed bezween the edjacent surfaces of she conductors, and the arms are bent, in pairs respectively around the two conductors; the Whole being united by solder between the adjacent surfaces of the conductors and the connector.
