invention consists in certain novel features of constructionas hereinafter shown and described and specifically pointed out in the claims, and inthe drawings illustrative of the'preierred embodiment of the invention.

It will thus beseen that the tone arm will swing; the plate 5 Boutwardly while the pin 4 engaging the lip 10 will swing it inwardly. The backwardnor outward movement produced by the action of the tone arm on plate 5causes the pin 1' to escape engagement with the lug 29 on the. brake bar 23 thereby avoiding the. application of the brake during the "playing; of a 1ec01d,'it being necessary'to provide this oscillatory movement ofplate 5 so that when the tone arm ceases to move at the end of a record it will have no effect on plate 5,56 that the ing- 29 will be positioned in thepa'th of the stud 4- and will be engaged by said stud on the'turning of the gear2-which will cause the brake bar 23 to be moved longitudinally inward, thereby applying the-brake and stopping the. machine. From the above description it will be obvious that if the reproducer is removed from the record by the operator either before or after the record is played or during the playing of the record the turntable will stop without any attention from the operator. This is due to the fact that there is no means for swinging outwardly the plate 5 and permitting the brake carried lug 29 to be re tracted except when the tone arm is being moved centerward such as occurs during the playing of a record.
The preferred embodiment ofthe invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:
1. In an automatic non-set stop for talking machines, the combination with a tone arm; of a brake normally held in inoperative position. means for applying said brake, and a slidable frictioniconnection between said tone arm and one member of said brake applying means operable on the inward movement of the tone arm to prevent application of the brake.
2. In an automatic non-set stop for talking machines, the combination with a tone arm; of an arm fixed at one end to said tone arm, a bar pivoted at one end to the free end of said arm, a brake normally held in inoperative position, means for applying said brake, and a slidable friction connection between said bar and one member of said brake applying means operable on the inward movement of the tone arm to prevent application of the brake.
3. In an automatic non-set stop for talk- 1 ing machines, the combination with a tone arm; of a brake carrying bar normally held in inoperative position, a member mounted for oscillatory movement and having a pin and slot connection with said brake bar, a rotary member, means on said rotary member and said. bar for engaging when the 05-' cillatory member is swung in one direction and 'a sliding friction connection between saidoscillatory member and said tone arm whereby said member is swung to prevent engagement of the rotary member with the brake bar when the tone arm is moved inwardly.
4-. In a stop-of the class described, the combination with a tone arm; of a turntable, a
- post connected to rotate said table, a reciproeating brake carrying bar, a spring to hold said bar with the brake normally in inoperative position, rotary means operable by the turntable operating means to engage saidv bar and move it against the tension of the spring to apply the brake, and slidable friction means controlled by the tone arm to move the bar out of the path of said rotary means while the tone arm is in motion.
5. The combination with a tone arm and a bar to slide longitudinally on the plate, 7 means for limiting the swinging movement of said plate, a rotary element mounted to engage said plate and swing it inone direction to bring the brake bar in the path of said element, a bar having sliding friction connection with said plate, an arm fixed to said tone arm, said arm and bar beingpivotally connected.
6. An attachment of the class described comprising a base plate for mounting on a talking machine below the turntable thereof; an L-shaped lever fulcrumed at one end on said plate and having braking means on its other end, a brake rod pivoted at one end to the elbow of said lever, a coiled spring connected to normally hold the brake inoperative, a plate mounted to swing horizontally on said base plate, means for limiting the swinging movement of said plate, a pin and slot connection between the free end of said plate and said brake rod, an arm to be fixed at one end to the tone arm, a bar pivoted at one end to the'free end of said arm and having a sliding friction connection with said pivoted plate, whereby the plate is swung in one direction by the tone arm,
