Be it. known that I. HENRY P. PaoUo, a citizen of the United States, residin in the city and county of Philadelphia, tate of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful AutomaticSto) for Talkin -Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of an attachment for a talkin machine embodying novel means for causing the engagement automatically of a brake member with the turn table of such machine for stopping the latter promptly on the termination of a piece played. 2

It consists also of mechanism adapting the attachment to be set relatively to the number of convolutions on records so that said attachment is operative relatively to records playing pieces of different lengths.

Referring to the drawings,

1 designates the turn table of a talking machine, the same being mounted on the top of the cabinet of such machine as usual. 2 designates a bar or base which is supported on said top and having a side plate 3 which extends angularly therefrom over said top.

13 designates what I denominate a brake shoe which is formed of leather, rubber, or other suitable pliable material, a portion of the same resting on the face of the head -l and being secured thereto by the screw 14, and having its sides embraced by the lugs 7, so as to beheld firmly in position, a portion of said brake shoe projecting from the pcriphery of the head, so as at a proper time to engage frictionally the depending rim 15 of the turn table 1, and stop the rotation of the, latter.

16 designates an elbow lever which isconnected with the bar 2 by the pivot 17, one limb 18 of said lever extending over the bar 2 and having on its free end the laterally turnednose 19 which is adapted to enter the recess 6 in the head 4 and lock the latter, whereby the brake shoe is held out of contact with the rim 15.

Connected with the lug 8 of the head 4 and the lug 11 of the plate 3 is the spring 21, whose object is to rotate said head when the latter is'released of the nose 19.

Connected with the lug 12 of the plate 3 and the limb 18 of the elbow lever 16 is the spring 22 which is adapted to hold the nose of said limb in engagement with the head 4 in the recess 6 in the latter.

On the pivot or pin 17 of the elbow lever and interposed between the head of said ivot andthe adjacent portion of said elbow ever, and between said portion and the cOntiguous part of the bar 2 are the resilient washers 28 and 24 which serve to hold said lever properly separated from said bar and im art proper friction to the former.

end, the arm 31 reaches the limb 20, and bears against the same, so as to trip it, whereby the nose 19 is Withdrawn from the recess 6, and so the head i is rotated due to the action of the spring 21 bringing the brake shoe into frictional contact with the rim of the turn table, thus quickly stopping the latter, which, as is evident, is occasioned just as the playing of the piece is ended.

' The head may be reset for the nextpiece to be played by rotating it in reverse direction, for which purpose said head is provided with the ar or lever 32 convenient for the purpose,,the nose 1 9 then again droppingjnto' the. recess 6 and so controlling the disk against rotation until the elbow lever is engaged and operated by the born as previously described.
