GEORGE D. HEGK, OF PRINCE BAY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE S. S. WHITE DENTAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, A. CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
DENTAL CHAIR.
Application filed. June 14, 1919.
Chairs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin drawings.
My invention relates particularly to that class of chairs that are adapted for the use of dentists, barbers or other professional operatives, and is especially directed to the arm-rests that are disposed at the opposite sides of the chair seat.
Chairs of the class contemplated are usually provided with a single standard for the arm-rest connected with the chair frame and engaging the arm-rest intermediate of its ends, thereby leaving the unprotected ends of said arm-rest to catch the clothing, especially the pocket, of the operator.
The object of my invention is to provide an arm-rest with a support so constructed and extended as to shield the projecting end of said arm-rest, and thereby render it incapable of interfering with the free movement of either the operator or the patient in the chair.
Specifically stated, the form of my invention as hereinafter described, comprehends an arm-rest support comprising a single standard connected with a chair frame, and having an extension forming a shield, curving rearwardly and upwardly of the rear end of the arm-rest, and arranged to guide the clothing of the operator or of the patient, away. from said arm-rest.
My invention also includes all of the various novel features of construction and arrangement as hereinafter more definitely specified.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary, side elevational View of a dental chair showing the seat, and the preferred embodiment of the arm-rest supported by the seat frame, and Fig. 2 is a similar fragmentary View showing a modification of my invention.
In the form of my invention, shown in Fig. 1, the chair frame 1 is supported upon a suitable base 2, and carries the seat 3, legrest frame 4, and back-rest frame 5. The arm-rest 6 is carried by the arm-rest sup- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 3, 1922. Serial No. 304,109.
' port which is mounted on the seat frame 1,
and which comprises a single standard 7, branching into a plurality of upwardly extending members 9 and 10, terminating at their upper ends in the arm-rest plate 12, to which said arm-rest 6 may be attached in any suitable manner.
The member 10 curves rearwardly and upwardly to the rear end of the arm-rest 6 to afford a shield or guard for the clothing of the operator, and is arranged to guide said clothing away from the end of the arm-rest, thus preventing its being caught thereby.
In the form of my invention shown in F ig. 2, the. arm-rest 15 is supported by the standard 16, and is provided with a depending shield or guard 17, preferably curving forwardly toward its lower end, and affording a guide to deflect the operators clothing therefrom.
I do not desire to limit my invention to the precise details of construction and arrangement as herein set forth, as it is obvious that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the essential features of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. An arm-rest for an operatives chair, comprising a shield affording a guide, depending forwardly from the back end of said arm-rest, and arranged to guide the operators clothing therefrom.
2. An arm-rest for an operatives chair, comprising a medial support, having a shield affording a guard, curvedly extending rearwardly from said support to the back end of said arm-rest, and arranged to guide the operators clothing therefrom.
3. An arm-rest for an operatives chair, having a support comprising a single standard branching into a plurality of upwardly extending members, one of which being extended to the end of said arm-rest to form a guard arranged to prevent said arm-rest from catching the operators clothing.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of June, A. D. 1919.
GEORGE D. HEOK.
