I' and PATENT oFF-roei mer MUNTWYLER, or nucnnmz, swrrzEaLAm-J.
ELECTRIC FLATIBON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led September 13, 1820. Serial No. 410,004.
To all whom z't may concern.
Be it known that I, ERNST MUNT-wmn, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland. and resident of Lucerne, in the Canton of Lucerne, Switzerland, have invented new useful Improvements in Electric Flatirons, of which the fpllowing is a specification.
A great disadvantage, ironing damp fabrics, lower part of ilatirons is quickly cooled E while the upper part of the iron remains warm without, however, b eing adapted to be especiallyA when This invention has for its object to -obviate such drawback the `upper and lower parts of the atiron being equally adapted .for ironing purposes. In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 shows a side elevation, partly in section, of the electric ilatiron; Fig. 2 shows an end elevation, andFig. 3 a plan, partly in section, of Fig. "1, while Fig. 4 shows a lk sectionthrough line A-B in Fig. 3
1 designates the b ody of the fiatiron in b the hollow interior of which the electric heating-device is mounted inthe known manner. Also mounted in the hollow chamber and secured by a screw`v6 to a bridgepiece 4 forming an integral part of the said body isa pin'. -This in carries and serves as a pivot for a hol er 2 with handle 3.
The outer end of the 'pin 5 terminatesfin a fork? designed toreceive a pivoted handle 13, the upper'p gtion4 thereof being adapted to engage the 8 of an extension of the cooled-oil', the handle 13 is engagement with the recess 8 and thereafterggA body caused to be turned about an angle of 1805' part; a pin secured to th /b v lation the the, recess holder 2 and insuch position preventing a rotary movement of the bod 1 in relation to the said holder. If there ore during the use of the ilatiron its lowerpart has been swung free of degrees which movement causes a corresponding rotary movement of the pin 5. The face of the 'iron formerly at the top is thus laced at the the han le 3. Subsequent to this/manipuhandle'13 .is made to re-engage 8 thereby once more safeguarding consists in that the bottom in relation rto.
a turning movement of the body 1 relative to the holder. It will thus be seen that both the upper and lower faces of the fiatiron may be used alternatively.v
The electric current is obtained from any convenient source and, by meansl of an electric wire 12, a contact member 10 and plugs 11, is conducted to the electric heating device in the following manner.
Each of the plugs 1,1 terminates in a double nut 14 and each these nuts is corinected with a disk 18 by means of two wires 15 and clamps 19 suitablyattached to the said disk, the wires 15 being mounted within groovesW 15 provided in the holder 2 in the manner illustrated in Fi ."3. The disk 18 is slidably fitted on the older part 2,
- the latter beingl vso disposed that thegrooves 15* not only serve to house the aforesaid wires but also engagewith projections fashioned on the disk 18. In this way the disk, when the holder part 2 is turned, .is
i ewise turned.
Opposite the clamps 19 and secured to the ridge-piece 4 are contacts 20 each of which is connected with the heating device 21`by means f a wire. In order. to ensure a reliable contact between the clamps 19 and the contacts 20, the former are spring-controlled, anspring 16 and disk 17 of insulating .material tending to. press the clamps against the contacts 20.
`Intentar Jan. 3, 1922.
Having now fully described. my said invention whatV I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is t-.
Inthe herein-described electricalh1 heated atiron, the combination with a ho ow iron body having an upper and a lower flat face right angles to its upper vand ylower faces,
b5 pin and .having an outthe said means comprising a second handle linked to the projecting end of the aforesaid pin andAadapted to engage the extension on the holder; and electric oonnections 'a Contact making .devce'd on, respectively in, the sai' hollow iron body, all as and for the 91.1599@ Se? ifelf 'n
