Description

-A. CONNELLY.
STOVE DAMPER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 3, I92!- 1,402,214. Pa ented Jan. 3,1922;
TENT
ALONZO CONNELLY, TOPEKA, KANSAS.
STOVE DAMPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 3, 1922.
Application filed February 3, 1921. Serial No. 442,155.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALoNzo CQNNELLY, a citizen of the United States, residin at T0- peka, in the countyof Shawnee and tate of Kansas, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Stove Dampers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. 7
This invention relates to improvements in dampers, and particularly to a damper to be used in the pipe leading from a stove to a flue.
The object of the invention is the construction of a simple and efficient damper which will retard the escapement of heat from a stove and yet will allow the obnoxious gases or fumes to readily escape to the'outer atmosphere.
With this and other objects in view, my
invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a view of a stove to which is attached a pipe leading to a fiue, the pipe being broken away, showing my improved damper therein in elevation.
Figure 2 is a vertical, sectional view of my damper.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the ring of the damper.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, l designates the stove, 2 the pipe, and 3 designates the flue. In the pipe 2 is positioned the damper 4.
The damper 4: comprises an annular ring 5, provided with penetrating spurs 6; these spurs 6 are adapted to be forced through the walls of the pipe 2 to retain the damper in position within the pipe. Secured to the under face of ring 5 is the retarding cone-drum 7 Positioned above the ring 5 is an apertured cone 8, which cone 8 is provided with an annular flange 9; the flange 9 engaging the upper face of ring 5, thereby affording an efficient bearing, enabling the cone to rest upon the ring 5.
The suction or draft through a the apertured cone 8 is suflicient to draw the burned gases or fumes through the damper, yet the heat units will be retarded considerably by striking against retarding cone-drum 7 and the apertured cone 8, heating the damper and thence heating the pipe to a greater degree because the metal damper and pipe will give off the heat to a greater extent than would be the case if the pipe was left free by reason of no damper being the-rein.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illus trated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as. shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
As a new article of manufacture, a damper ALONZO CONNELLY.
