IMPRoVEME'r' In ROTARY sTAP-cANcELens.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. Monro, dated June 24, 187:1; application filed March 29, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM SCHACHT, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of N ew York, have invented a new and Improved Rotary Stamp-Oanceler; and I do hereby dc: clare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description'of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a. part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of my rotary stamp-canceler; Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same on the line 0 c, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a. front view of the detached printing-roller open-for the reception of the types; and Fig. 4, a vertical transverse section of the same, closed, on the line at m, Fig. 3.
The object of my invention is to furnish to brewers and others a convenient apparatus for canceling internal revenue and other stamps in a quick and expeditious manner, near the central part of the same. My invention consists in the mode of inserting and holding the type, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the frame of my rotary stamp-canceler, to the upper part of which is secured an ink-receptacle,vB, and below the same the inking-roller G. Directly above and parallel with the latter is printing roller 1). The ink-receptacle B is provided with a narrow outlet, at its lower end, which outlet may be opened more or less by means of a sliding gate, E. Anjink-distributer, F, of suitable material, is hung near to, and in contact with, inking-roller D, as shown in low roller D, and acted upon by band or other spring f, carry the stamp-strips'through, so that the stamps will successively be canceled by the rotation of roller D. The lid H is piv- I oted to the shoulders e,-secured by pins 9 passing sidewise through them, and has the name of the firin upon it. It also has a recess, 0, slightly conical, from the inside toward the outside, for the insertion and adjustment of the changeable types for dates, 8w. Roller D has a slight recess, 0, whiclrforins the base for the conical types, with their round faces and letters corresponding to those of the firm-name. Thus, no cutting of the the stamps is produced.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The printing-roller D having shoulders e, recess 0, and pivoted lid H, with conical recess O and pins 9, for the purpose of inserting and holding the types, as described.
WILLIAM SOHAGHT.
