WINDOW.

Application filed May 13,
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. Knnnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVausau, in the county of Marathon and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful lVindow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to storm windows, and more particularly to a storm window to be secured adjacent to the exposed side of locomotive windows for protecting the same from rain and snow, or the like, to insure a clear and unobstructed line of vision through the window.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily applied, and one in which the elements thereof are removable to permit air to enter the window to which the device is applied.
Another object of the invention is to provide a window wherein the rain or snow contacting with the window will strike the window at an angle, causing the same to glance therefrom.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring, to the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an engine cab, showing a storm window constructed in accordance with the present invention, as applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the storm window.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the same.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional detail view showing the side members of the device and the grooves for supporting the movable elements thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the device includes a main frame 5, which in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 3,1922.
1921. Serial No. 469,176.
operation is positioned directly in front of the window to which the device is to be applied, and as shown, the frame is constructed to support the window glass 6.
The'side members of the device are indicated at 7 each of them having connection with the frame 5 in any suitable manner, the side members being inclined'outwardly as clearly illustrated by Figure 2 of the drawings so that the person looking through the window, will have a wide range of vision. Formed along the inner surfaces of the side members 7 are flanges 8 which are arranged in pairs and disposed in spaced relation to provide grooves for the protecting glass 9 which is removably supported therein, the flanges being constructed however to lie in spaced relation with the outer edges of the side members to support the protecting glass 9 in spaced relation with the edges of the side members 5.
Flanges 10 are also arranged in pairs and formed at the upper edges of each of the side members to provide grooves for the metal cover 11 which may be readily and easily slid within the grooves when the same is to be positione In order that the side members may be held in spaced relation with each other,a connecting member 12 is provided adjacent to the upper edges of the side members and connects the side members, the member 12 being shown as bolted to the side members, as by means of the bolts 13. i
The side members are provided with inwardly extending flanges 1a, which flanges are apertured to receive the bolts 15 that secure the side members 7 to the window frame. It might be further stated that the side members of the frame 5 are provided with grooves indicated at 16, which grooves receive the lower edge of the glass 9 to prevent movement of the glass 9 at this point, and to insure against the glass breaking.
Formed along the outer edge of the metal cover 11 is a downwardly extending flange 17, which flange overlies the outer edge of the glass 9, to hold the same within its supporting grooves. From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the angle at which the glass 9 is supported, snow or ice strikingthe glass 9 will contact therewith at an angle to cause the same to be directed downwardl away from the glass 9, with the result t at the line of vision, through the window is clear."
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as neyviszl. A storm window comprisinga window frame, side members extending outwardly frame, side members, said side members-'being secured to the window frame, each of sa d; side members having flanges, said flanges being spaced apart to, provide 20 grooves, the flanges being spaced from the lower edges of thesidemembers, a cover remov'ablysecured to the side members, a transparent member disposed within the grooves, and a flangecarried by the cover 2 and adapted to embrace one edge of the transparent member.
V In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.-
