DISH-WASHING- TOOL.
Application filed October 18,1920. SerialNo. 417,582.
T0 all 107mm t may concern.'
Be it known that l, CHRISTIAN M. Comer, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Dish- Tll/lashing Tools; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a dish washing tool, or more broadly, to a cloth holding device which is adapted to readily receive and retain a cloth and to form a handle by which the cloth may be used as a dish washing cloth, dust cloth, polishing cloth, etc.
As is well known, it is often undesirable to continually immerse the hands in water used in washing dishes and other articles, owing to the temperature or caustic conditions of the same. lt is also frequently inconvenient or undesirable to soil the hands with various polishing and cleaning materials.
@n object of the invention, therefore, is to provide a device, by the use of which, a cloth may be used to perform various operations and which may be immersed in various fluids without the continued immersion of the hands therein.
lt is another object of the invention to provide such a device by which damage or injury to the hands is avoided in working on rough or splintery surfaces.
These and other objects of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds, in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference characters refer to t-he same parts throughout the different views; and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the holding device proper; and
Fig. 2 is, likewise, a perspective view of the device, showing the washing cloth inserted therein.
handle 1 has a reduced part at the end carrying the holding tool arranged to receive the usual ferrule. The device 2 extends for a short distance axially from the handle l and is then formed into a helix 4. llVhile stiff wire aords a convenient material in which the device 2 may be constructed, it will be understood that any other suitable material may be used. The helix Il expands in diameter toward its outer end and the end 5 thereof is formed to project in a straight line tangential to the helix curve and is formed with a blunt point 6. The portion 5 extends substantially normal to the axis of the helix.
`When it is desired to use the device, a suitable cloth B is folded across the center, so that the edges and folds thereof radiate from a point located substantially at 7 The cloth is then held in one hand and the device A held with the other, and the point 7 of the cloth is inserted into the helix and turned therein. The coils of the helix act as screw threads and the cloth will be traversed upwardly therein by a turning movement, and as the helix contracts to-ward its upper end, the cloth will be very rmly and securely held in place therein.
The device is then ready to be used as a dish washing tool, or any other convenient purpose. The cloth will be easily manipulated to wash dishes placed in hot water without it being necessary to immerse the hands in the water. By means of the projecting part 5 having the blunt point 6 thereon, the dishes may be engaged under the edges and suitably turned and moved about in the water.
If the device be used as a scrubbing device, the end 5 will be found useful in loosening and removing Vmaterials which may have become attached to the surface being cleaned.
F rom the above description, it will be seen that the device is one which has a wide range of utility. The device can be quickly and inexpensively made and can, likewise, be readily dition. Generally stated, the invention consists in the matter shown and described and set forth in the appended claims.
lVhat I claim is:
l. A dish washing tool having in combination, a handle7 a wire or rod member projecting axially therefrom and formed at some distance from the handle into a plurality of cleaned and kept in sanitary conprogressively increasing-in diameter away vfronrsald handle,fsa1dmember having a substantially straight portion tending outward 10 @of `the router end of the helix substantially ltangential thereto.
In testimony whereof I afiX my sio'nature.
CHRISTIAN M. ooiBY.
