UNH'ED STATE earner caries.
DANIEL RICHARD COOPER, 0F GORE, ZEALAND, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF T0 CHARLES WILLIAM ANDERSON AND FLORENCE LOUISA HOWORTII, BOTH OF WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND.
DOUCHE.
' Application filed May 4,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Rrorrano COOPER, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing in Gore, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Douches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to improvements in douches or the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a douche that will more effectively cleanse the vaginal orifice, that can be readily adapted for use as an enema, and that can be readily sterilized.
The invention will be described with the aid of the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is an elevation of the assembled apparatus,
Fig. 2 is a plan of the douche nozzle.
Fig. 3 is an enema nozzle shown screwed into the tube connection shown in Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of a modified form of nozzle.
Referring now to the drawings and more particularly to Fig. 1, the upper portion of the head or nozzle 1, is provided with ridges 2, sloping in a downward direction as shown, and the lower portion of the head or nozzle is provided with other ridges 3, sloping in an upward direction as shown, and the dome orv top 1, of the nozzle is provided with ridges 5, running crosswise.
Liquid emission holes 6 are located in the walls of the head or nozzle 1, at the bottom of the ridges 2, and are preferably directed upward as shown. Other liquid emission holes 7, are located in the walls of the head or nozzle 1, at the bottom of the ridges 3, as shown. The top also of the head or nozzle is provided with a liquid emission hole 8, (Fig. 2), and the ridges 5, above referred to are preferably made to run from said liquid emission hole 8. Additional liquid emission holes may be made in the top.
or dome if desired.
Between the ridges 2 and 3 is a space 9 in which may be located other liquid emission holes 10. The liquid emission holes 6, 7, 8, and 10, make communication with the passage 11, within the head or nozzle 1. The tube 12, is screw-threaded at 13, and adapted to be screwed into the nozzle 1. The tube connection 14 is threaded and may Specification ofLetters Patent. Patented Dec. 27, 1921.

be screwed on to the pipe 12, which is threaded therefor at 15. hen the rubber tubing 16 from the douche can (not shown in the drawings) is connected to the nipple 18, the apparatus is ready for use.
In operation when the device is inserted into the vaginal passage and moved up and down therein, the ridges 2 and 3, act as scrapers, while the flow of liquid from the douche can through the liquid emission holes will effectively irrigate and cleanse the sides of the orifice. By giving the device a slight rotatory movement, the ridges 5 scrape and cleanse the top portion of the said passage.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 4, the nozzle 1 has two ridges 20 and 21, located at its upper end. Holes 22, are provided for the escape of air and emission of water. The top of the nozzle is open as shown, thereby permitting a large supply of water at the top.
The device may be readily used for administering an enema by means of the tube connection shown in Fig. 3. The screwthreaded portion 19 of the enema nozzle is screwed into the threaded portion of the tube connection 14, and the enema may then be administered in the ordinary way.
By unscrewing the nozzle 1, an ordinary nozzle may be screwed upon the tube 12 if desired.
What I claim is:
1. In apparatus of the kind and for the purpose described, a head or nozzle, downwardsloping ridges arranged in parallel planes upon the upper part of the said head or nozzle, upward sloping ridges arranged in parallel planes upon the lower part of said nozzle and liquid emission holes leading preferably to the sloping. sides of said ridges, substantially as described.
2. In apparatus of the kind and for the purpose described, a head or nozzle, ridges arranged in parallel planes upon the upper part of said nozzle, liquid emission holes leading to the spaces between said ridges, the top of said nozzle being open to permit a large supply of water for cleansing purposes, substantially as described.
3. In apparatus of the kind and for the purpose described, a head or nozzle, downward sloping ridges arranged in parallel planes upon the upper part of said head or nozzle, upward sloping ridges arranged in parallel planes upon the lower part of said emission means on the top of the said head or nozzle whereby the water emitted from 15 the top of said nozzle is used to irrigate said ridges and cleanse the top of the passage, substantially as described. i
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 20 two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL RICHARD COOPER.
