Be it known that I, VINoEN'r M. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Mason and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Rotary Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains to rotary locks, designed for locking any rotary element of a machine, such as the adjustment knobs of the Holley or Kingstonstyle of carbureters, or the steering wheel of any automobile.
The object is to provide a simple, eflicient and durable form of lock of this character, which may be readily attached to the element to be locked, and having combination elements whereby the lock may be instantly operated without the use of keys.

The invention consists of a suitable hollow, cylindrical case 1, with a closed top 2 pierced with a central lock stem hole 3, and with a circle of holes 4;. The bottom of the case 1 is open as shown at 5 and a key plate 6 is rigidly mounted within the case adjacent the open bottom end thereof, and parallel to the top 2. The key plate 6 is pierced with two circles of key holes? and 8, the inner circle of holes 7 being alined with the holes 1, and has a central lock stem hole 9 alined with hole 3. A lever ring 10 is rigidly mounted in the case immediately above the key plate 6, being supported by studs 11. A recessed, annular seat 12 is formed around the open end of the case 1, and a circular lock plate 13 is adapted to seat therein. This plate 13 is formed with two circles of sockets 1 1 and 15, alined respectively with the circles of key holes 7 and 8. A

Springs 21 normally hold the rods 18 in their uppermost position, and in this position the lower ends of the keys 20 will 'justclear the upper face of the key plate 6. WVhen depressed,
however, the keys 20 pass down through the key holes 7 an d into the sockets 14:, thus locking the lock plate' l3 against rotation. Rocking levers 22 are pivotally mounted at upon the lever ring 10, and the inner ends of these levers 22 are pivoted at 24 to the lower ends of the rods" 18, while the outer ends are provided with threaded sockets 25 to receive the threaded keys 26, adapted to engage the keyholes 8 and the sockets 15, thus locking the lock plate 13 against ro tation. The keys 20 and 26 are so proper tioned and mounted, that when the push rods 18 are in elevated position the keys 20 will clear the plate 6, while the keys 26 will pass through the plate 6 and into the sockets 15; on the other hand, when the rods 18 are in depressed position the keys 20 will pass through the plate 6 and enter the sockets 14, while the keys 26 will then clear the plate 6. In either case and without'further provision, the lock plate 13 would stand locked against rotation. Now in order to form combinations of the push rods 18 to permit the lock plate 13 to be rotated, all of the keys 20 and 26 are unscrewed from their sockets, when of course the lock plate 18 may be freely rotated by the handle 17. The addition of a key 26 to a rocking lever 22 makes it necessary to depress the corresponding rod 18 in order to rotate the plate 13. In addition of a key 20 to a different rocking lever 22 makes it necessary to leave that lever in its normahelevated position in order to rotate said plate.
Thus it is evident that by adding other keys 20 and 26 to other and different rocking levers 22, various combinations can be made for unlocking the look plate 13 for rotation, and also that these combinations may be changed as desired. The only condition is that where a key 20 is added, the companion key 26 must be omitted. Also the tions.
