Be it known that l, l lnns HANsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county 0i Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVringers, of which the following is a description, referring to the drawings which accompany this specification.
The invention relates particularly to wringers of the type employed in laundry operations and refers to a simple and effective means for the application and quick release of the spring clamping mechanism as further shown and described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows my improved wringer in operative combination with. a washing machine and power driving mechanism. Fig. 2 shows a front view of the wringer seen in. Fig. l with the spring bar released. 3 is a top view of my wringer mechanism. Fig. 4 is a top view of the top housin member of the device. Fl x 5 is an enlarged sectional detail or" the top housing member and the operative elements in combination therewith.

Referring to the drawings, 10 represents a washing machine of the dasher type. At 11 a motor is indicated driving transmission mechanism contained and operable within a case 12. This mechanism operates the rack bar 13 for washing machine operation and also drives the bottom roll 14c 01? the wringer. The top roll 15 and the bottom roll 14 are mounted in bearings contained within the frame housings 16, 17 of the wringer; the bottom roll maintains a fixed relationship,
while through vertical adjustable movements of the bearings the upper roll may be set to a close working relationship with the bottom roll as seen in 1 and in which position the wet clothes are passed between the rolls for wringingpurposes. Frequently the space between the rolls as in Fig. 1 is not suflicient to permit passage of the clothes, which occasionally become bunched, or possibly the operators lingers get caught between the rolls; then, it is very essential that a quick release may be permitted such as will allow the upper roll to move upwardly away from the bottom roll to the position illustrated in Fig. 2.

which is arranged at one side of and connected with the central bearing 20 within which the bushing 21 is vertically mounted. The bushing 21 has a side catch 22 extending into the slot 19. A screw 23 fitted with a hand wheel 24: is adjustably screwed down in the threaded upper portion of the bushing 21 to a contact with the pin 25 slidably mounted upwardly within the bore of the bushing 21. The base head 26 of the pin 25 envelops the central portion of the spring bar 27 which bears at its outer ends against the bearings of the upper roll 15.
Pivotally mounted at 28 within the slot 19 is a dog 29 which in Fig. 5, corresponding to the position of the parts in Fig. l, engages with the catch 22 to maintain the bushing in a fixed relationship with the rigid cross brace 18. The wheel 24 is then turned down to exert a desired tension on the spring bar 27 through the pin 25; the bar 2'? then sets the top roll 15 in operative position with respect to the bottom roll 14.
A hand lever 30 is pivotally mounted at 31 within the slot 19 with the handle 32 upwardly arranged above the brace 18 and an inner tooth 33 of the lever 30 engaged be tween the teeth 34, 35 of the dog 29. A spring 36 is arranged between the dog 29 and lever 30 to normally force the dog 29 and lever 30 to the positicnseen in Fig. 5.
Should a sudden clogging occur between the top and bottom rolls, a downward blow is struck on the handle 32 which forces the tooth 33 to raise the dog tooth 34: to the dotted position 34*. Fig. 5 which pivotally withdraws the dog 29 from the catch 22 to the dotted position 29*; then the spring tension in the bar 27 automatically forces the pin to raise the bushing 21 and screw 23 to the position seen in Fig. 2 where the head 37 of the bushing 21 contacts the under side of the member 18. This permits the top roll to move upwardly a considerable distance from the bottom roll so that the clogging material may be removed from between the rolls.
To again place the parts in the operative position seen in Figs. 1 and 5, the wheel 24 in Fig. 2 would be turned backward a turn or two, then a downward blow struck upon the wheel 24. which would drive the parts downwardly until the catch 22 was again engaged by the dog 29 as actuated by the spring 36, then the wheel 24: is screwed down a turn or two to again create the desired spring tension on the bar 27.
By means ortmy invention a quicker and more positive action is obtained than is customary in common practice.
Such modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claims. Having fully described my invention what i new claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent is: V
