Be it known that I, GLADYS H. WEINRIGH,

a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate user of the telephone from possible infection or the like occasioned by the presence of germs on the telephone transmitter. At the same time the present guard is very well adapted for advertising or similar purposes.

One of the objects of the present invention is to devise a .guard for a telephone transmitter, which guard may be readily attached or removed by the user of the telephone. This will make it possible for telephone users to carry these guards with them and attach them to the transmitters of telephones which they may use from time to time. i Y 3 Another feature of the invention has to do with the provision of a guard made of paper or other similar material, and so formed that it may be readily folded up into a very small space. This will make it more convenient for the telephone users to carry the guards with them, and will also make it possible to more easily and conveniently ship the guards in quantities.

Another feature of the invention has to do with the provision of a medicated or otherwise sanitated guard, the same being impregnated with suitable anti-septirrmaterial. Other objects and uses of the invention will appear from a detailed description of the same, which consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

I have illustrated a simple type of guard embodyingthe features of the present in vention, wherein Figurel shows a pers ective View of a telephone transmitter having applied thereto one form of guard embodylng the features of the present invention;

guard illustrated in Fig. 1. This guard includes two layers or portions either one of which may be used independently if so desired.

Fig. 4 shows a erspective view of the conical guard folde up into a flat form for convenient carriage 'or shipment.

The telephone transmitter is designated by the numeral 5. It may be any transmitter which is to be protected, but I have illustrated a transmitter of the usual form having the front flanged portion 6 which is of larger size than-the rear portion.

The guard illustrated in Fig. 2 includes the two sections 7 and 8, which I will designate as the conical and the flat sections respectively. The conical section may be made up from a substantially circular piece of paper 9, the-edge portion 10 of which is folded over so as to provide a flange which may snugly engage the edge portion 6 of the transmitter; and the central portion of this piece of paper is formed into a coneby the use of suitable apparatus such as a die press.

During this forming operation there will naturally be produced crimps or corrugations in the body of the material, but it will not be objectionable in the ordinary use of such a device.

On account of theresiliency of the edge of the guard occasioned by the corrugations or crimps, it will attach itself firmly and retain its position on the edge of the transmitter. It may be easily removed by the user of the telephone and then folded up and carried away.

In. some cases it may be desirable to use the guard for advertising purposes, in which case any suitable advertisement may be marked on the face of either or both of the sect-ions 7 and 8 as shown for example in Fig. 1.

In some cases one ofthe guard sections will be used whereas in other cases both sections will be used. I have, however, for purposes of convenience shown both sections in Fig. 2, but it will be understood that I contemplate the use of either one individually or both together according to the wishes of the user. As a new article of manufacture, a sanitary guard for the mouthpiece of a telephone transmitter or the like comprising a conical paper section havin its edge-pore tion flanged backward and crimped and adapted to engage the edge ortion ofthe telephone transmitter mouthpiece, and a flat paper section and having its edge portion flanged backwardly and crimped and adapt-- ed to engage the edge portion of the conical section, both of said sections being impre nated with suitable anti-septic material, su stantially as described,
