UNITED STATEEJ? rAreNT OFFICE.
JAMES R. BOWER, OF DALLAS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO ADOLPHUS AUTO RENT COMPANY,
OF DALLAS, TEXAS, A CORPORATION OF TEXAS.
AUTOMOBILE ORNAMENT.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, James R. Bowen, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas,- in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automobile Orna-- merits, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a display device for automobiles.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is neat and attractive in appearance.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, formed of few and simpleparts, held together in a secure manner to enable the device to withstand the jars and vibrations to which it is subjected in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention, and, i
Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through the same.
The device includes a base 5, which'may be formed of metal or other suitable material. This base has a recess or chamber 6, to receive and hold the socket 7 of an electric bulb 8. While it is preferred to employ an electric bulb, other sources of The base 5 has a diagonal opening 8, receiving an electric cable 9, connected with the socket 7. The base 5 also carries a depending screw-threaded bolt or element 10, adapted for engagement with a screw-threaded opening formed in the cap of a radiator nozzle or in the fender, or like part of an automobile.
The base 5 is provided upon its top with an annular seat 11, surrounded by an upstanding annular flange 12, adapted for the reception of a tubular body portion 13. This body portion is preferably cylindrical, and preferably formed of, translucent material, such as frosted or ground glass. The tubular body portion 13 may be provided with a symbol 14, here illustrated as an A.
Arranged upon the top of the body portion is a cap 15, which may be formed of Application filed September 18, 1920.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Dec. 13, 1921.
Serial No. 411,115.
1 metal or other suitable material, and this cap has a depending annular flange 16, for the reception of the upper end of the tubular body portion 13. The cap 15 is preferably provided with an ornament 16, preferably formed integral therewith, the ornament being shown as an eagle, for the purpose of illustration, but the invention is in no sense restricted to this particulor type of ornament, and others may be used.
A rod 17 is suitably connected with the base 5, and projects vertically within the tubular body portion 13, and extends through an opening in the' cap 15. The
upper exposed end of this rod is screwthreaded for receiving a nut 18, by the manipulation of which the ,cap and base may be firmly clamped to the tubular body portion.
' By the employment of the source of light,
the device is visible at night, and of course is used in day without the employment of artificial light. The device is formed of few parts, which are securely and rigidly held together, and should there be a tendency of the parts to work loose, any slack may be,
quickly taken up by screwing up the'nut 18.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a'preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape,
size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the" scope of the sun,
cylinder having its ends engaged in the base and cap for clamping the 7 cylinder. therebetween, and a figure mounted on the cap, the base and cap extending radially beyond the cylinder.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JAMES R. BOWER.
