LICATION FILED JUNE 23.19
Patented Dec. 6, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAZEL E. GRAY, OF LITTLE SILVER, NEW JERSEY.
FACIAL MASSAGE DEVICE.
Application filed June 23,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAZEL E. GRAY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Little Silver, Monmouth county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F aeial Massage Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to produce a device for inducing circulation of the blood in the human body by heating or massaging the skin, and more particularly to produce a device for massaging the face. The invention consists in a bar-like body of wax or waxlike material having round edges and having a depression or cupped portion at one or both ends. In the preferred form of the device it is molded of was having the stiffness of ordinary beeswax or paraffin wax, and the bar has suflicient cross section so that it may be used like a mallet without danger of fracturing. lVith the device so constructed and having round edges or corners, a smart blow can be struck on the face or other part of the body without abrading the skin, and when this blow is struck with the cupped end of the device a partial vacuum will be formed within the cup or recess which will tend to bring the -3-3, 44 and 55, respectively, of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing 10 indicates the body of the device which is in the form of a substantially rectangular bar having round corners or edges. At one end there is an integral enlargement 11 which is preferably round or oval, and one surface of this enlargement is depressed, as shown at 12, to constitute what may be termed a vacuum Specification of Letters Patent.

cup. At the other end of the bar there is a smaller cup or depression 14.
In operation the bar 10 serves as a handle and the surface to be treated is usually beaten with the enlarged end 11, preferably using the cupped side 12, although for some purposes the opposite side may be used. In treating parts of the face, particularly around the eyes, it is desirable to use the smaller end of the device having the cup 14.
The device is preferably manufactured as shown of a solid mass of wax or waxlike material of suf icient cross section to give it the necessary strength. It will be obvious, however, that a reinforcing core could be inserted, in which case softer wax might be used.
Essentially invention comprises a mas sage device, an article of manufacture, consisting of a bar of suitable material of such 1 ngth, and having its material so disposed, as to adapt it to serve as a heater, sa'il bar having a cupped beating portion 70 imparting to the device the action of a cupdevice, for the purpose herein set forth.
