Be it known that I, Rocco FAnnIzIo, a citizen of the United States of America, residingat Springfield, Hanipden and State of of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in curtains for protecting car windows and especially street car windows during summer, from rain insuch a manner as to rovide i transparent windows from which the passen ers may take observations.

(H16 of the types of street cars in commen use is a car having window frames adapted to be lowered intoinoperative positions so as to provide relatively large window openings in the sides of the car for open air riding. Should a storm come up the inside curtains are lowered for the purpose of affording a temporary protection to the passengers and of keeping the seats dry. The wind and rain deflects such curtains inwardly and the end portions of the seat are consequently covered with rain so as'to he unfit for use, thus reduc ng the capacity of the car by compelling the passengers to crowd into the center aisle. provides a curtain on the outside of the car which can be rolled into an inoperative position under ahood mounted on the side of the car or on the car roof or contained in a housing built in the car. This curtain is provided with a series of folding or rollable transparent sections through which the passengers may look when the car is at rest' or in motion to make any desired observations. The curtain 1s preferably held at its ends against the side of the car by means of guides so as to prevent flapping and ex clude rain.

With the above and other objects in View this invention relates to certain new and useful combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
