TIME-RECORD FOLDER.
. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Now. 29, 1921.
Application filed December 6, 1920. Serial No. 428,655.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN H. HAN- SEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Time-Record Folder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates generally to a system of recording the time of employees, the principal object thereof, being the provision of a time record folder as a substitute for the time card usually employed, which folder is adapted to receive and retain inclosures therein, and to be inserted in the time recording mechanism.
Another object of my invention is reduction of clerical work on part of the office, which is accomplished by the use of a pay envelop in connection with the folder; the
employee making out the requisite state ments on the envelop after which it is inserted in the folder.
With these and such other objects in View as will become apparent from the descrip tion, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1, is a perspective of my folder, showing the pay envelop positioned therein.
Fig. 2, is a plan of the pay envelop em ployed in connection with the folder.
Heretofore, in the systems now in use, a time card is employed which forms the only record of the employees time and all pay envelops are made out by the office from the records of these cards. This system necessitates considerable clerical work, which in a large business assumes vast proportions. Furthermore in all duplicating time cards, a punch is used or a carbon sheet employed. My invention does away with all these and relieves the oflice of the labor of making out the pay envelops as this is done by the employee.
The elements of my invention comprise a paper folder 1, open along the length of one edge 2 and across one end 3, and a pay envelop 4 adapted to be inserted within the folder and entirely inclosed therein. One face of the folder is provided with the necessary indicia printed thereon sothat said face constitutes in itself a time card of the type generally used, and the entire folder is of such dimensions as to permit-of its insertion in the time recording device, in the same manner as the ordinary time card.
The pay envelop 4 is of the ordinary type, except that the face thereof is provided with indicia printed thereon designed to indicate the location, status and working time of the employee when the blank spaces thereon are properly filled in.
Under the system contemplated by the present invention, the folder is placed in the time recording mechanism and printed as an ordinary time card by the employee, and at the end of each payroll period, the employee fills in the necessary data on the face of the pay envelop, stating the time expected, after which the envelop is inserted in the folder. The combined folder and envelop reaches the paymaster at the time desire which is generally later. Thus the time of the employee may be registered while the envelop is in the folder. This eliminates the necessity of the oflice making out the pay envelop, and the envelop reaches the paymaster at the same time as the folder. The two are then checked against each other and the money placed in the envelop which is then sent for distribution to the point indicated thereon by the employee.
The nature of the folder permits of the inclosure of individual instructions for the employee, or other data, beside the pay envelop resulting in a considerable saving of time, as this is not possible with the ordinary time card. Furthermore inclosures within the folder are readily accessible and are securely retained therein.
It is obvious that the printing on the faces of the folder and the envelop may be altered to suit the business in which the two are used without in any way departing from the features of the invention. While I have shown and described certain specific details and materials which enter into the construction of the various elements of my invention, I desire it to be understood that it is not my intention to limit myself to these, but that any such may be used as will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
1, claim 1. The combination with a folder bearing an appropriate imprint adapted to receive a time card record thereon, of a pay envelop adapted to be inserted in said folder, said envelop having an independent differently printed time record thereon covering a period of time similar to the record on said folder whereby to balance the record on said folder, and bearing data to identify it With said folder.
2. The combination With a folder open at one end and along one side edge, adapted to be inserted in a time recording mechanism anclhaving one face thereof bearing an appropriate imprint adapted to receive a time record printed thereon by the recording a Written record thereon made by an em ployee, and independently of the folder.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
