IMPROVEMENT IN COACHES QR CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,753, dated June 20, 1873; application filed December 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ALLGAIER, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Coaches or Carriages having Opening Tops, of which the following is a specification:
,The invention consists in an arrangement of a recess or pocket in that portion of the base or bed of the vehicle which intervenes between the front top part and the drivers seat, for reception of the side-lights or windows, which are made detachable to provide for the folding or lowering of the front top part, as herein specified.
In the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section of a threequarter Clarence landaulet constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing the vehicle with its top raised or closed; Fig. 2, a similarseetion showing the vehicle with its top let down or open 5 and Fig. 8 a horizontal section with the parts in the position represented in Fig. 1.

These sashes or side-lights prevent, when in their places, the top part0 from being lowered, as described. When, therefore, it is necessary to lower the said top part these sashes are removed, and packed or laid in a pocket, G, made in the upper part of the front bed portion B, ready at any time for re-insertion when the top part O is raised.
Curtains instead of glass may be applied to the front window if desired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The front bed portion B, constructed with a pocket, G, for the reception of the removable side-lights or sashes E E of the front top part 0, essentially as described.
