To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that'I, THOMAS E. J AOKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rogersville, in the county of Lauderdale and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Sights; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in gun sights and more particularly to an attachment therefor and has for its primary object, the provision of means for shielding the sights of a gun or rifle from excessive sunlight, thereby rendering the device more distinguishable and also permitting accurate shooting under such conditions.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a shield that can be readily applied and removed from an ordinary sight and when applied to a split sight will transform the same into a peep sight.

A further object of thisinvention is the provision of a gun sight of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and eflicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a front sight illustrating a shield. applied thereto and constructed in accordance with my invention,

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety a front sight for a gun or a rifle consisting of a base 2 adapted to be secured to the barrel of the gun or rifle in any well known manner and which has formed thereon the projection 3 forming the sight. A shield 6 is of substantially tubular shape in cross section and has diverging legs 7 that engage the base and said legs have feet 4 formed thereon which engage each end of said base. The tubular portion of the shield 6 in position about the sight 3 prevents a glare of light thereon and alslo rendering the sight readily distinguishab e.

The reference character 8 indicates as an entirety a rear sight of the split type. A rear shield 9 consists of diverging portions 10 that are adapted to frictionally engage the rear sight 8 and are sufiiciently spaced to define a sight opening between the same and the rear sight 8. The diverging portions 10 frictionally engage the sight 8 so as to retain the shield 9 on said sight. An extension 11 is formed on one end of the body of the rear sight 9 and is of substantially V-shape in cross section and disposed within the notch of the split sight 8 and has its edges directed upwardly and outwardly to form feet 12 that rest upon the wall of the notch thus it will be seen that the notch is shielded from excessive sunlight thereby permitting a person to readily look through the notch at the front sight.
