Description

of the invention, such as will enable others this specification `the frame, in which the roller and spring are placedal1 of which will be more fully def UNITED STATES PATENT NCDEEroE.
ALMON E. LAZELL, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,719, dated June 10, 1873; application filed May 13,
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALMoN E. LAZELL, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful'mprovements in Curtain- Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of The nature of my invention rela-tes to an improvement in curtainiixtures for holding the cord; and it consists in, iirst, a roller and aninclined plane, which allow the cord to be freely moved in one direction, but which catch and hold it as soon as the reverse motion begins 5 second, a spring placed under the roller, so that the action of the roller in binding the cord shall be easy and gradual; and, third, in
scribed hereafter.
Figure lis a sectional view of my holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthe plate out of which the frame is formed.
l represents the frame, stamped from a sheet of any suitable kind of meta-l, having the two slots, 2, in which the roller 3 plays, and the two ends, 4, which form the legs, for securing the frame to the window-frame, as shown in Fig. l. After the plate has thus been stamped, it is placed in a suitable die, so as to turn up the sides and bend down the legs, and then l the roller 3 and spring 5 are secured in position.
As the two slots are cut so as to approach each diagonally, when the sides are turned up, they form inclined planes for the roller, which allow the cord to be pulled freely down, but as soon as it begins to move in the opposite direction the roller catches and binds it against the bottom ot' the frame so as" to hold it firmly and securely. The spring 5, placed in the bottom of the frame, under the roller, gradually gives as the roller begins to bind the cord, making its action gradual and easy and preventing any sudden jerks.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a curtain-holder, the roller3 working in the inclined .planes or slots ot' a suitable holding frame, when arranged to operate sub-` stantially' as shown and described.
2. The spring 5, arranged in a suitable frame, and combined with a roller working ifn` an inclined plane or slot, substantially' as set forth.
' 3. The frame 1, having the inclined slots 2 and legs 4, when constructed as specified, in combination with the roller 3, substantially as shown. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I y have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of ,l May, 1873.
Witnesses: ALMON E. LAZELL.
