STRAPPING DEVICE FOR DRESS- SUIT CASES AND THE LIKE.

Be it known. that 1, PAUL W. Poser, a citizen of the United States, residing at Algoma, in the countyv of Kewaunee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strapping Devices for Dress-Suit Cases and the like,

of which the following is a specification,

and the like are made of inferior material,

therefore they necessitate some suitable holding means to strengthen the walls of the case, therefore, it is the purpose of this invention to provide a device of the present kind, wherein it is only necessary to unfasten a single hook and buckle, in order to permit the strapping device to be removed from the dress suit case or like carrier.

Another purpose is to provide a device of this kind involving an endless chain coupling constituting a connection between the opposite ends of two straps extending at right angles about the dress suit case, satchel or similar carrier, so that the walls of the dress suit case or satchel may be reinforced.

Still another purpose is the provision of a coupling chain permanently attached to adjacent ends of a pair of straps, which pass about the dress suit case at right angles, one engaging about the case lengthwise, the other about the case transversely, so that the opposite ends of both straps may be detachably connected to the chain, therefore rendering it possible for the last mentioned ends of the two straps to be disconnected from the chain, to permit the removal of the strapping device.

While the design and construction at pres ent illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a. reduction of the invention to a more practical form for commercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible of changes, and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a coupling chain, which is endless, and 2 denotes a strap, the end 3 of which is folded and riveted at hwhereby the chain may engage in the loop of the fold, thereby connecting the strap to the chain. The other end of the strap has a buckle 5, and is provided with a plurality of openings 6. The

end of the strap having the openings or apertures 6 18 designed to fold so as to engage the couplingchain 1. After folding the end of the strap over the chain, it is inserted through the buckle, the tongue 7 of which having been first passed through one of the apertures or openings of the under part of the strap is then passed through one of the openings of the end of the strap which is folded. over, thereby connecting the last mentioned end of the strap detachably to the coupling chain. After the tongue 7 of the buckle has been engaged through the registering apertures of the folded part of the strap, the remaining end portion of the strap is inserted through the other part of the buckle, so as to prevent slipping of the strap as well as the buckle. The strap 2 is designed primarily for passing about a dress suit case, satchel or similar carrier, and

8 is provided with a hook 11, which may be engaged with the chain coupling, or engaged in any one of the links of the chain. The strap 8 engages about the dress suit case transversely thereof'and at right angles to the strap 2.

In using the strapping device, it is applied as shown. For instance the strap 8 is made of a length to engage transversely about the dress suit case, satchel or the'like, in suchwise that the chain coupling is drawn in an elongated form, as shown clearly in Fig. ,3. The strap 2 is then passed about the dress suit case lengthwise, and then the end of the strap is looped in engagement with the chain. The strap loop is pulled tight, and the folded end is then connected with the'body' of the strap 2 by means of the buckle. hen stretching the strap 2,'the chain coupling is open to assume substantially a rectangular contour, and when stretchingto assume this formation, it will be noted that the'strap 8 is drawn tight transversely of the case simultaneously with the tightening of the strap 2.

The strap 8 adjacent where it is attached to the book 11 has an adjustable buckle l2, sothat the strap-8 may be lengthened or shortened in order to fit dress suit cases of different sizes transversely. It is obvious that the trap 2 isrcapable of fitting dress suit c'ases'of different sizes lengthwise, owing to the" adjustable connection of the buckled end. It" is obvious that the tightening of one strap automatically tightens the other strap, and when the strapping device is applied to a dress suit case, the walls thereof willbe held firm, and thoroughly reinforced against rough usage incident to handling in the transportation of baggage.

. The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as being useful is:

1. A strapping device for dress suit cases and the like, comprising in combination with a pair of straps passing about the dress suit case in opposite directions, one intersecting the other adjacent one face of the dress suit case, one end of each strap having a closed loop, an endless loop chain passing through the closed loops, one end of one of the straps being folded to form a loop engaging said endless chain, a buckle adjustably and detachably'connecting said folded end with the body of the strap, one

end of the other strap having an opening loop, whereby the opening loop may be adjusted, and a hook carried by the opening loop to engage the endless chain, whereby upon adjusting either strap, both straps may be tightened simultaneously.

2; A strapping device for dress suit cases, comprising a pair of strapsengaging about the dress suit case in opposite directions, one intersecting the other on'one face of the dress suit case, one end of each strap having a closed loop, and an endless chain passing through said loops, the other end of each strap having adjustable loops, one engaging the endless chain, a hook carried by the other adjustable loop and detachably engaging the endless chain, and means whereby either one of the'adjustable loops may be increased or decreased in size, whereby the adjustment of either of the loops functions both of the straps to tighten simultaneously about the dresssuit case.
