Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, .PATRICK J. CATELLO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida-an'd'State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Drymg Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a clothes drying cabinet and has for its primary object the provision of a cabinet within which is positioned a movable carriage carrying a plurality of arms pivotally connected therewith and adapted to extend radially therefrom when the carriage is in horizontal position, thereby projecting outwardly to support clothes and other articles for drying.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a clothes drying cabinet of the above stated character in which the vertically movable arm carrying member may also be supported in either vertical or horizontal position and supported therein within the cabinet.

The invention has for a further object, the provision of a clothes drying rack of the above stated character in which counterbalancing members will be provided for the vertically movable carriage and support so that the carriage and its support may be held in any desired position within the cabinet to force the arms in horizontal position outwardly of the open side of the cabinet.

The invention has for a still further object, the provision of a clothes drying cabinet of the above stated character, in which the parts will be constructed in such a manner that the carriage and the arms carried thereby may be completely inclosed when the device is not in use.

be retained in-position by any suitable latc mechanism 4. The casing 1 may be secured in any manner upon a wall .or any other stationary support at a convenient height from the floor, as will be understood by those familiar with this art.

Within the casing 1 or cabinet is mounted the carriage 5 between the pairs of side rails 2. The carriage 5 is provided with upstanding end portions 6 which adjoin the end portions of a shaft 7. The ends of the shaft 7 project between the guide rails of each pairat the opposite sides of the casing or cabinet 1 and have guide rollers mounted thereon for movement upon the guide rails 2. The guide rollers 8 are preferably concaved, as shown in the drawings to prevent longitudinal movement of the shaft 7 and carriage 5 transversely of the casing or cabinet 1.

Mounted centrally upon the shaft 7 and preferably rigid therewith is a segmental bracket member 9 which has its end portion bifurcated or slotted, as shown at 10 so as to accommodate the lower ends of the article supporting armsll which are mounted upon the pivot pins 12 passing through the bifurcated portion of the segmental bracket member 9, as shown in the drawings. It will therefore be seen that the article supporting arms 11 may be spread apart at their outer ends to extend radially from the segmental supporting bracket 9 when the door 3 is open and the article supporting arms 11 and segmentalsupporting bracket 9 are permitted the bottom and top of the casing or cabinet 1, I have provided a pair of cables 13 which are attached at one end to the upstanding end portions 6 of the carriage 5 and carry counterbalancing weights 14 upon their op posite ends. They pass around the pulleys 15 located upon transverse shafts 16 extended through the front and back of the cabinet or casing 1 adjacent the upper corners there of so that the guide rollers 8 and the ends of the shafts 7 may avoid the weights 14 and cable pulleys 15 as the carriage 5 is raised and lowered within the casing or cabinet. It will be understood that the weights 14 will counterbalance the carriage 5and parts carried thereby to retain the carriage 5 in any desired position within the casing or cabinet 1 and any additional weight added to the movable parts by the placing of articles upon the article supporting arms 11 with these arms 11 extended outwardly of the casing or cabinet 1, will result in binding action of the carriage 5 on the back of the casing or cabinet 1 and prevent the carriage 5 from sliding downwardly. After the articles have been removed from the arms 11 the carriage 5 may be lowered and the supporting bracket 7 and arms 11 swung upwardly and inwardly to their normal positions in the casing or cabinet 1 to permit closing of the door 3.

From the foregoing it will beevident that I have provided a clothes dryingcabinet of simple and eflicient construction and one which will be highly efiicient in use. It is to be understood, however, that while the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, many minor changes in the'details of construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a cabinet, a carriage therein having arms, a shaft fixed in saidv arms, rollers on the shaft, guide means for the rollers, flexible members secured to the arms, guide means over which the flexible members are trained, counter balances for the carriage on said flexible members, article supporting means journaled on the shaft intermediate the arms,'and said articlesupporting means under the imposition of weight being adapted to move the carriage into binding contfiacgi with the cabinet for the purpose speci- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
