Be it known that I JOHN McLacnLax, a citizen f the United sees raiding e East Elmhurst,'in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Cam-Shaft Removers, of which the following is-a specification.
This invention, relates to devices for removing shafts which are contained within a housing, and more particularly to devices for removing cam-shafts of automobile engines When it was desired to remove a camshaft from its bearings for the purpose of rep or replacing said shaft or any of its associated components, it has been customary in the past to resort to laborious and time-cons I i 1 operations. At the extremity of the threaded member 10 opposite the head 11 is a slot -.18 which is for the purpose ofperm'itting the use of a screw-driver, when- 1t is n to screw the threaded portion 12 on the'end of a cam-shaft. At 14 is indicated the threaded end of a cam-shaft 15, shown as journaled in a 16 and provided with the usual bushing 1 said bearing being mounted within an casing 18. A device for' removing cam-shafts comprising a casing, a chamber portion at one end thereof, a guideway' connected with the chamber portion and extending laterally therefrom, a pull-screw movable in said guideway, a head member integral with the pull-screw for idin and centering the pull-screw in sa1d gui eway, means in said ead member for engaging a cam-shaft, a slot on the pull-screw for moving said means into engagement with the shaft, and a nut threaded onjthe ull-screw for withdrawin said screw from t e ,guideway and said sha from its bearings.
