Like letters indicate like parts in each ligure.
The nature of this invention relates to the peculiar construction and attachments of a folding-top for vehicles of all kinds, tents, awnings, and other purposes where it is desired to remove and attach the top at will, so constructed that, when removed, it can be compactly folded into a very small space.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the various parts, as more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the top, made of any suitable lexible or textile material, cut into any desired shape. To the under sideLof this top, and near its corners, are secured the loops B. C are expanders, made of spring-steel or other suitable material, the ends of which are engaged with; and proj'ectthrough, the loops B. These expanders i are pivoted together at a., the center of. their lengths, so that when detached they may readiy be folded together. D are standards, the upper ends of which are provided with rigid loops E. [n the drawings these standards are shown attached to a carriage-body, to which they are pivoted at` their lower ends, so that when the top is removed they may be folded` down into the bottom of the wagon;
The top A being prepared, the loops B should be securedy to the under side thereof, so thatA gtivc the top the appearance ot' a turtle-back` top, the distance between the tops of the standards should be a little less than the dis` tance between the loops on the under side of A the top.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- .Y ,e A folding-top, A, secured to the standards D by means of the loops B E, and expauders C, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.`
