Description

s. A. E. LARSEN.
DOUBLE TUBULAR LOCK.
Patented 001:. 11, 1921.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOFUS ANDREW EMIL LABSEN, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
DOUBLE TUBULAR LOCK.
Original application filed June 3, 1920, Serial No. 386,280. Divided and this application filed January 13,
Serial No. 437,028.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Sorus ANDREW EMIL LARSEN, subject of the Kingdom of Denmark, residing at Vesterbrogads 126, C0 penhagen, Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double Tubular Locks, of which the following is a specification The present invention relates to a tubular lock for doors and the like, and consists mainly therein, that the lock is manufactured as two cylinders, of which one, which contains the bolt, in a known manner is inserted in a hole in the edge of the door, while the other, which contains the ward for register with the bit of the key, is arranged at a right angle to the first one and tangentially to it in a cylindrical hole, drilled entirely through the door.
The present application, in which the said invention is disclosed is a division of my prior'application Serial No. 386,230, filed June 3, 1920.
I will describe my invention by the aid of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figures 1 and 2 are fragmental vertical sections, taken at right angles to each other, of a door in which the improved lock is used.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the lock cylinders.
On the cylinder 1, which contains the bolt and is arranged in a hole in the edge of the door. is fastened another cylinder 2, which is inserted in a hole, drilled entirely through the door. The two cylinders 1 and 2 are arranged in such a manner with their axes crossing and oil'set relatively to each other, that one cylinderv enters somewhat into the other.
The two cylinders are rigidly connected Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
which is disposed against one surface of the door, and a similar plate 22 is disposed against the other surface of the door: the portion of the door opening adjacent the plate 12 being enlarged, as shown, to permit the insertion of the cylinder 2 and the engagement of its flanges 3 with the edges of the notch in cylinder 1.
The cylinder 2 receives the key 6 and has one or more Wards 7, that register with the bit 8, which in the usual manner acts upon a talon 9 or similar member connected with the bolt in the cylinder 1.
Instead of the key and the wards being formed as illustrated on the drawing, the cylinder 2 may of course be constructed to receive a key of the pin-lock type or of some other type, and the part 2 need not necessarily be cylindrical, but may be made of oval or angular cross section, so long as 1t is made in such a manner that it may be inserted in the hole drilled entirely through the door.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature 01" my said inven tion and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A double cylinder lock, comprising two cylinders disposed with their axes crossing each other at right angles and offset relatively to each other, one of said cylinders having a pair of outwardly-flared lugs on the upper portion of its periphery, and the other cylinder having formed in the lower portion of its periphery a dove-tail notch into which said lugs project and against the o posite side edges of which they bear.
2. double cylinder lock, comprising two cylinders disposed with their axes crossing each other at right angles and offset relae tively to each other, one of said cylinders having a pair of outwardly-projecting lugs on its periphery, and the other cylinder having formed in its periphery a notch into which said lugs project.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
SOFUS ANDREW EMIL LARSEN.
