MARY C. SPRAGGINS, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
asearic.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY C: SPnAccINs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Bag-Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a bag support and has for an object to provide an improved bracket which may be readily mounted on the table or other support so that the bag will be in position for receiving any desired article.
.Another object of the invention is to probag in a sewing room, general utility bag, or a trash bag, and arranged to be supported with its mouth open when in use and to have the mouth section folded when not in use.
An additional object is to provide an improved form of clamping device for supporting a bag, the arrangement being such that the clamping device may be readily disengaged at any time.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bag and support disclosing an embodiment of the invention, the same being shown mounted on a table.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view looking at the clamp forming certain features of the invention. V
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through Fig. 1 approximately on line 3-3, the same being on an enlarged scale. 7
Fig. 4 is a detail fragmentary sectional view through Fig. 1 approximately on line Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a bag of any desired kind provided the same is formed at the upper end with a looped portion 2 for receiving the supporting ring sections 3 and 1 at the upper part is provided with a slit or opening 5 on each side and a reinforcing section 6 at the end'of the slit. The ring sections 3 and 4 are hinged together at 7 and 8, the hinge structures being identical except for the removable screw 9. a
In Fig. 4 a detail of this structure is shown wherein a member 10, U-shaped in cross section is provided and through the sides of which the respective pins 9 and 11 extend, pin 9 in one instance being formed Specification of Letters Patent.

as a screw so as 'to be readily removed in order to apply or remove the bag 1. It will be understood that the looped portion 2 is sufiiciently large to readily pass over either of the members 10.
In order to provide means for supporting on a suitable article the ring members 3 and 4 a construction 12 is provided-the same acting as a clamp which is designed to grip part of a table 13 or other support. This clamp is provided with a top clamping member 14 which is formed from a looped section extending from the ring section 3, said ring section being crossed at 15 for forming the loop. Preferably, a covering 16 of felt, rubber or other material is provided so that the clamp will not scar the table. A pair of spring arms 17 acts against the top clamping member 14:, said arms having one or more loops'18 around the ring section 7 near the crossing 15- and then merging into a lower clamping section 19. Section 19 comprises depending bars 20 and 21 merging into horizontal bars 22 and 23 which in turn merge into a substantially U-shaped release member 24 having a thumb depression 25.
When clamping a table as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the points of connection 26 engage the under surface of the table top and the member 14 engages the upper surface. By reason of the resilient nature of the material of which the spring arm 17 and other associated members are made and the loop 18, there is a gripping action between the points 26 and the member 1 1. When it is desired to remove the clamp from the table, a direct pull thereon will cause the clamp to slide olf though preferably the thumb depression 25 is grasped and the spring 17 and the tension on the clamping points 26 and clamping member 1 1 is reduced before this removing action takes place.
What I claim is 1. A support for a bag comprising a ring member for maintaining said bag open at one end, said ring member comprising a pair of arc-shaped sections, a pair of hinge structures for connecting said sections together, said hinge structures being substantially U-shaped in cross section with a pintle extending through each end of each of said sections, said pintles being set in from the end a sufficient distance so that the ring sections may swing together in one direction and move to an open position in the opposite direction and a clamp connected with one of said ring sections for clamping the ring sections to a support.
2. A support for a bag comprising a ring member for supporting said bag with one end open and a clamp connected to said ring member, said clamp comprising a looped extension projecting from said ring member and a spring structure including a pair of spring arms tending to move said looped member in one direction and a gripping portion in the opposite direction. i
3. A support for a bag comprising a ring member connected with the bag at the mouth thereof, said ring member being divided into substantially two equal parts and hinged together so that one part may be swung over against the other part for closing the bag or swung to an opposite position for opening the bag, said ring member having a looped extension acting as part of a supporting clamp and a spring member co-actlng with said looped extension acting as the other part or" the clamp for supporting the ring "member and the bag amounted-thereon;
i. A support for a bag comprising a ring" as a clamping member and tending to move in the opposite direction to said looped extension whereby said ring member may be clamped to an article for supporting the same and saidbag. v a
