Description

l. A. LovEloY. Hooks for Hanging FIower-Pot\s,`&."
VNo. 139,254, Patemedmayzma.
turning to the window-frame.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IRA A. LOVEJOY, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOOKS FOR HANGING FLOWER-PQTS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,254, dated May 27, 1873; application filed April 11, 1873.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA A. LOVEJOY, of Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Suspending-Hook for Hanging Flower-Pots, 8vo., in front of dwelling-house windows, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to present a hook of the proper length (so as to avoid curtain-nxtures, &c.,) to take the place of the suspendinghook now in use, which shall not mar in the slightest degree any visible portion of the window frame or casing, and which shall be sumciently strong to answer the purpose.
Many hooks now in use for hanging dowerpots, shelves for pots and the like at windows, must be screwed into the window-frame, thus marringthe appearance, especially when, for any reason, the hook is required to be removed or its position changed.
In this invention no holes need be made in any part of the frame that is seen, all that is necessary being two small holes upon the upper side, entirely out of sight.
I n the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side View of my suspending-hook, the broken lines representing the top and front of the window-frame and the position of a screw. Fig. 2 is a plan of my hook, the broken lines showing the top or upper side of windowframe.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
a is a horizontal rod extending from the horizontal upper side of the window-frame out into the roomsuiiiciently far to allow the flower-pot to clear the curtain-fixtures, then bulging out at a. to receive the rod b, and re- At each end it is bent around to hold and inclose the head of a screw which, being driven into the frame, holds it in place. The two ends shaped to receive the screws are lettered a b is a bracin g-rod, one end of which is soldered or otherwise fixed in a small plate, c, and the other end, b', extending over and through the part a of the rod a, is bent into the shape of a hook. The plate c is placed against the front of the window-frame" without being in any manner attached thereto or in any way marring it. The rod b serves the purpose of a brace and hook, and the bent rod a is the holder or fastener.
These rods may be made of any suitable material and can have great strength, suilcient for any ordinary purpose. In case a shelf for owersis to be hung two hooks may be used.
It is also useful for hanging bird-cages or anything else required to be set out from the window. y
It will probably be found advisable to solder or otherwise attach the parts a' and b.
The fancy-work "e is merely for the sake of ornament and may be varied or omitted at pleasure.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The suspen din g-hook hereinbefore described, composed of the bent rod a a a'fand the bracing-rod b b, said rod b b from marrin g the window-frame by means of the plate c or equivalent device, as and for the purpose above set forth.
