Description

J. E'. RODGERS.
FUEL OIL BURNER.
I APPLICATION FILED NOV-1| I920- Patented 3001s. 4, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN EDWARD RODGERS, or IMPERo YAf L, Nova soo'rrA, crumbs FUEL-OILTIBURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 4, 192-1.
Application filed November 1,-1920. .Serial No. 421,055. 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN EDWARD Ron- GERS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, a resident of the town of Imperoyal, Province of Nova Sootia, Dominion of Canada,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuel-Oil Burners, of which the following is a specification. I This invention relates to improvements i fuel oil burners, and the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and effective device by which fuel may be atomized and detail in the following specification and ac companying drawings forming part of the same.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectional .view embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear end view. I Fig. 3 is a front end view.
Fig. 4 is a plan view. Like characters'of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to the drawings; A represents the burner including a fuel nozzle D and a steam nozzle C both conveniently cast together in one piece.
The openings of the nozzles as seen," extending transversely across the front of the member A being elongated transversely, the nozzle C opens against a, plane surface 10 through an which extend immediately above the opening in the nozzle D.
The nozzle 0 is provided with a control ling member D and .the nozzle B with a controlling member E. These controlling members are adjustably held in position, the member D being held by a bolt 11 which extends through a slot 12 in the member D and has screw. threaded engagement with suitable screw threaded perforations 13 in the member A. r
The member E is adjustablyheld inposition by two bolts 1d extending through slots 15 in the member E and engaging a suitable screw threaded perforation 1n the member'A.
The controlling member E is in the form of a flat plate formed on the inner side with a channel 16 and formed onthe topwith a g to guard fuel and cause it to in the form of a fine'film which is atomized channel 17, these channels be distributed by the steam'd-istributing it face end.
over the surbeing adapted The lower edge of. the controlling member D is formed with a suitable channel 18 which forms .an opening through the steam which is distributed ina fine sheet of spray and caused to comingle with the oil and atomize the same.
A suitable screw threaded neck 20 is provlded on the rear forming an extension over the fuel nozzle and being adapted to be connected to a suitablesupply of fuel oil. The nozzle C connects with a similar neck 21 adapted to be connected to a supply of steam.
The burner may be used or connected to any suitable supply of fuel .oil and in any place where it is desired to generate heat,
the principal use being a steam boiler in I\gvhich the burner may be placed in the fire In operating, the fuel oil is first forced with fuel nozzle under pressure and lighted. The steamis then forced with a steam nozzle and it will atomize the fuel oil and enable a high temperature to be obtained.
'As many changes could be made in the above construction and many widely'different embodiments of my invention within the scope'of the claims, constructed without departing from'the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A fuel oil burner comprising a fuelnozzle, a steam nozzle, each of the said nozthe plane of A which the steam nozzle discharges against a plane surface and in which controlling plates are mounted adjustablyon'plane surfaces whichextend at substantially right angles to the first-mentionedplane surface. 3. A fuel oil burner comprising a nozzle having a discharge port and a plane surface extending outwardly therefrom, a second nozzle having an inclined discharge port discharging at the end of the aforesaid planesurface, and adjustable controlling plates adapted to be adjusted across the discharge port of each nozzle.
4. A fuel oil burner comprising a fuel nozzle, a steam nozzle, the steam nozzle being adapted to discharge along a plane surface, a transversely adjustable controlling plate mounted across the end of the nozzle,
the controlling plate extending across the fuel nozzle having a channel in the face, the upper side of the controlling plate which extends across the steam nozzle having a channel in the lower edge, the said nozzles being adapted to discharge the fuel and steam invthin sheets adapted to comingle and atomize. v
In witnes whereof I have hereunto set my hand' in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN EDWARD RODGERS.
Witnessesz J. L. MACKINMON, G. C. GRIFFIN.
