Description
1. T. GOMEZ! SPARK PLUG CLEANER.
APPLlCATlON FILED JULY 27,1920.
Patented. Sept. 20, 1921.
JOSEPH T. GOMEZ, 0F
- ass GOLDFIELD, NEVADA.
SPARK-PLUG CLEANER.
T 0 all whomit may; concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH T. GOMEZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Goldficld, in the county of Esmeralda, and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spark-Plug Cleaners, of which the following is specification.
In the operation of internal combustion engines it is Well known that the sparlo plugs become carbonized, resulting in a failure to function properly unless the impeding coating is removed. My invention relates to a spark-plug-cleaner for removing this coatmg.
The spark-plug-cleaners at present in use are deficient in the following articulars:
(1) No provision is made for the clean ing of a number of spark-plugs at the same time; I
(2) No provision is made for the automatic a itation of the cleaningmedium;
(3) bimplc means for facilitating the draining of the cleaning fluid after contamination with impurities are lacking.
My invention has as its object the provision of a spark-plug-cleaner of simple structure whereby the above-enumerated deficiencies are eliminated.
For a clear understanding of my invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawings in Which- Figure l is a perspective View of the spark plug cleaner;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 8 is a section on line 3-45 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings the receptacle 1, preferably made of metal, has an intermediate floor 2, containing a plurality of apertures 3, the Walls of which are threaded and thereby adapted to receive sparln plugs 4.
The bottom 5 of the receptacle 1 is in--- clined slightly, to provide means for maintaining the lower surface of the cleaning medium at an angle to the horizontal to facilitate the draining of the cleaning medium 6, after contamination with impurities, through the valve 7.
The cover 8, serving to prevent an excess of impurities when the device is in use, is hinged at 9 and 10, respectively, and se curely locked by the spring members 11 and 12. The wall 17 of the receptacle is Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. so, iesi. 1920; Serial K0. 399,350. g
provided With cars 13, 14, 15 and 16, ad-
mitting of a quick, easy and convenient attachment to an automobile body, the continuous periodic motion of the automobile,
when in operation, serving as an agitating means for the cleaning fluid, thereby resulting in a more thorough cleaning of the sparlcplug and its electrode than is obtainable by the devices at present in use.
The cleaner is adapted to perform the cleaning operation quickly, conveniently and effectively and is advantageous in that a number of spark-plugs may be cleaned simultaneously and the be easily drained after with impurities.
I claim:
1. A spralcplug cleaner comprising a re;- ccptacle provided with. a plurality of apertures adapted to receive spark plugs, means for maintaining the lower surface of the cleaning medium at an angle to the horizontal to facilitate the draining of the cleaning medium and means for draining the receptacle.
2. A spark-plug-cleaner comprising a receptacle having an intermediate floor containing a plurality of apertures adapted to receive spark plugs, means for maintaining the lower surface of the cleaning medium at an angle to the horizontal to facilitate the cleaning fluid may its contamination draining of the cleaning medium and means for draining the receptacle.
3. A spark-plug-cleaner comprising a receptacle having an intermediate floor c0ntaming a plurality of apertures adapted to receive spark plugs, an inclined bottom to facilitate the draining of the cleaning medium, and means for draining the receptacle.
4. A sparkin -c.leaner comprising a closed receptac e aving an intermediate floor containing a plurality of apertures adapted to receive spark plugs, an inclined bottom to facilitate the draining of the" cleaning medium, and means for draining the receptacle.
5. A s ark-plug-cleaner comprising a receptacle aving an intermediate floor containing a. plurality of apertures adapted to receive spark plugs, a spring-controlled cover, an inclined bottom to facilitate the draining of the cleaning medium, means for draining the receptacle and ears secured to the Wall of the receptacle adapted to per mit the attachment of the same to an auto mobile body, whereby the cleaning medium presentin the receptacle is agitated on movement of the automobile.
6. A spark plug-cleaner comprising a receptacle having a plurality of apertures adaptedbfl o" receive spark-plugs, means for facilitathigihe draining of the cleaning fluid, means for draining the receptacle and means secured to the wall of the receptacle adapted to permit the attachment of the same to an autornobilmbody. whereby the cleaning medium present in the receptacle is agitated on movement of the automobile.
7. A spark-plug-eleancr comprising a receptacle having an intermediate floor containing a plurality of aperturesadapted to receive spark-plugs, means for facilitating the drainin of the eleaning'fiaicl, means for; draining the'receptacle, and means secured to the wall of the receptacle adapted to permit the athichment of thesame to an automobile body. whereby the cleaning medium present in the receptacle is agitated on movement of the automobile.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
JOSEPH T. GOMEZ.
