To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DOMINIO SAUDINO, a naturalized citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Ventilated Shoes; and I do ereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as vwill enable others skilled in the art to which it ap rtains to make Vand use the same.

he invention relates to foot covering and more particularly to the type of shoes for out door wear, the purpose being to ventilato the foot and keep the same cool and dry in' warm weather.

The invention consists of. a shoe comprising an inner sole and an outer sole, the two soles being spaced apart and having the lower( ed portion of the upper stitched thereto, t at part of the upper spannlng the space between the inner and outer soles having a row of openings formed therein and the edge ortion of the inner sole having openings orlthe ingress and the egress of air when the shoe is worn and the person is Walking. out door wear. The invention relates more particularly to the parts associated with the ventllating feature. As shown, the shoe comprises an outer sole 1, an inner soleV 2, and an upper 3. The upper 3 is 'stitched to the inner4 sole at 4. An extension of the upper 3 constitutes a flap 5 which is stitched at `6 to a scarf portion of a welt piece 7 placed against the outer `sole l and stitched thereto at 8. The extension 5 constitutes a bellows flap and is loose to admit of contraction and expansion to insure a positive circulation of air whereby the foot is kept cool and dry in warm weather. A row ,of openings 9 is formed in the flap 5 for the ingress and egress of air. A row of openings 10 is formed in the outer edge portion of the inner sole 2 for a like purpose. The lnner sole 2 is spaced from the welt piece 7, a ller 11 being interposed between' the two and secured so as tocprevent disi placement. The filler 11 is of less width than the inner suole 2 and the Welt piece 7 so as tov leave an outer space 12 for the unobstructed passage of the air in entering and leaving the shoe. When walking,'the flap 5 expands and contracts and results 'in a pumping action whereby airis positively drawn into and expelled from the shoe, thereby keeping the foot cool and dry.

It is desirable at times to cover the openings 9 to exclude dust and moisture,A as when traversing a'dusty road or walking in the rain. For this purpose aiband 13 is provided. The band 13 preferably consists of a strip of rubber of suitable .length and width to inclose the flap 5 and covering the openings 9 therein. The band 13 is detacha ly connected with the shoe So as to be carried in the pocket when not required for immediate use. Suitable securing means, such as separable fastenings 14, are pro vided for retaining the band 13 in position when required for use. One part of the fastening means is applied `to the shoe and the other part to the band,A as will be readily understood. f

A shoe constructed in accordanace with f the invention insures a positive ventilation of the foot and provides for excluding dust and moisture when necessary. The con- I struction is such as to admit of the shoe insures a cool and dry foot.
