l duction, which is facile in manipulation for attachment to or detachment from the bath tub, and is designed to support or suspend a back-rest of absorbent material, in the form of a mat. The mat is readily attached to or detached from its supporting or suspending device, and may be changed The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully pointed out and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are combined and an ranged according to the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure l is a face view showing the clevice of my invention in elevation, as usually supported or suspended from the roll rim of a bath tub.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view showing in section so much of the end portion of a bath tub as is necessary to illustrate the application there to of the device of my invention, the pad and suspending device being shown in section also.
In the preferred form of the invention as illustrated in the drawings, the device is to be supported or suspended from the roll rim R of the bath tub T as indicated -in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The suspending device is preferably made up of a single piece of steel wire, possessing su'llicient resiliency to enable the user to snap the device over the rim or roll R of the tub, and the suspending device comprises a suspension bar 1 curved to conform to the curvature of the inner face of the Specification of Letters Patent.

domestic bath tub.
At its ends this bar is bent upon itself form ingeyes 2 2, and the short return bars 3 3 extending inwardly suspension bar to contact with the of the tub. At the turn bars said bars are proximately right bar as at 4 and 4 curls conform generally of the tub as shown in F with the curved bar 5 provid curls, a wide hook is formed.
wire composing the susp suflicient resiliency, espe l and 4 as to therefrom reinforce the e a rigid and close inner face of the end wall inner ends of these recurled over at apangles to the suspension respectively, and these to the roll rim R ig. 3, and, together which joins these The steel ension device is of cially in the curls permit the wide hook to be snapped or forced over the top of the roll rim of the tub, and as the suspension bar and hook bar 5 the wall of the tub, the

conform to the curvature of device is thus re on the roll run,
The pad or mat 6, while shown here in rectangular form, may be made in any desired shape but of suficient length to depend into the water The pad or back rest material in order lary of the pad.
contained in the tub. is of absorbent, lofty, that the water, attraction may permeate the entire area Thus with warm water in the by capiltub, the water will be absorbed by the material of the bather and as a pad for the comfort of the protection against the usually cold walls of the bath tub.
The pad is of a width corresponding to the length of the suspension bar 1 and is designed to be suspended at its upper edge from said bar, the the bar at 7, at the rear of the bar of the tub. By means pad being turned over with its overlapping edge 8 and against the wall of a suitable number of snap fasteners 9, similar to glove fasteners, the upper edge of the pad after being turned over the suspension bar, is temporarily, but securely sion bar, open notches vided at the upper edge attached to the suspen- 10, 10, being proof the pad for the accommodation of the curls 4 and 4 of the suspension device.
The ads are interchan eable each individual using his or her own pad, and while the suspension device may remain in position on the tub, if desired, the pads may readily be attached for use and detached after use,
thus providing a sanitary pad for each individual user.
As illustrated the attaching device is covered, and the pad provides a shield for the person of the bather, not only against the Walls of the tub, but also against the metal bars of the attaching and suspending device, thus enabling the bather to perform his ahlutions with comfort and convenience.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is-- The combination in a back rest for a bath tub, of a suspending device comprising a suspending bar having bent ends and short reinforcing return bars, each said return bar at its inner end merging into an angularly disposed curl to fit over the roll rim of the tub and a curved hookbar ioining said curls, a pad oi: absorbent material having a notched upperedge and overlapping said suspending bar and reinforcing bars, and snap fastening devices on said overlapping edge and pad for temporarily securing said pad to the suspending bar.
