Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 6, 192i.
Application filed October 18, 1920. Serial No. 417,564.
boxes such as are used as containers and dis- Y pensers for various types of powders and condiments, and an object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive box which may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost and from which powdered contents may be easily and readily dispensed.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is a side elevation of the improved box.
Fig. 2 is a top plan of the box.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section through the box greatly enlarged for the purpose of clearness. l
Fig. 4 is a top plan of a modified form of the invention enlarged for the purpose of clearness.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section through the modified form of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l indicates the body of the box which is cylindrical in shape and may be constructed of pasteboard tubing similar to that used for mailing purposes, and cut to any desired length depending upon the quantity of powder to be contained in the box. A bottom 2 also preferably formed of pasteboard or analogous material, having an upturned flange for frictionally gripping the outer surface of the body l is provided.
A cover 3 of the box is constructed of the same material, and in the same manner as the bottom 2 having down turned annular iiange 4 for frictionally gripping the outer surface of the body l. The top 2 is perforated to form, preferably, an oval shaped opening 4B, however this opening may be made in any desired shape to permit the free dispensing of the contents of the box without departing from the spirit of this invention. A circular closure 5 is provided for the same material of which the cover 3 isV formed being pivotally connected to the cover by the usual form of headed brass paper clip as shown at 6 to permit the closure 5 to be swung into or out of closing position relative to the opening 4.
From. the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that a box for holding and dispensing powders or condiments has been provided which'can be manufactured at a very low cost and which will serve efficiently as a container for powder prior and during sale and as a container and dispenser for powders during use.
In Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawinga slight modification of the invention is shown, this modification being similar to the preferred form illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 of the drawing in every respect with the exceptionthat the cover 3 is forced outwardly about the opening 4', as shown at 10 to provide a slightly raised portion about the opening for engagement in the slightly outstruck portion ll formed in the pivoted closure disk 5. These outstruck portions will provide increased frictional engagement between the closure 5 and cover 3 to prevent accidental opening movement of the cover.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed Vin various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A box for containing and dispensing powders comprising a body open at each end, a bottom therefor comprising an annular iange frictionally gripping the outer surface of said body, a top comprising a disk and an annular flange formed thereabout frictionally gripping the outer surface of said body, said top having an opening therein, a closure disk for said opening, and a paper fastener pivotally connecting said closure disk and top, said top being outstruck about said opening, said closure disk being provided with outstruckportion for receiving the outstruck portion of said top.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
