Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTONE CONSTANTIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Patented Sept. 6, 1921.
To all w ham it may concern Be it known that I, ANTONE CONSTANTIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borou h of Manhattan, county and State of New ork, have invented a new and Improved Insecticide, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to insecticides, and has for an object the provision of an insecticide which is highly poisonous to insects, and when placed in an infected region will remain in place for long periods of time without being blown away.
My improved insecticide is especially valuable in the extermination of bed bugs and other house pests. There are many compositions for a similar purpose sold commercially, but most of these are in a powdered form and when sprinkled around in a room or house which is infected, the dust is carried around by the air and due to its highly poisonous character, is often detrimental to the health of human beings. In my improved insecticide, I provide a vehicle which will give the resulting composition a salve like character, so that when spread upon a surface, it will firmly hold the poisonous ingredients and. prevent them from entering the air which is breathed in by the occupants of the house.
I have discovered that green paint powder and yellow paint powder both have very poisonous properties toward bed. bugs and other house pests. Yellow paint powder consists primariliy of chromate of lead having the formula bCrO,, and the green paint )owder is a mixture of chromate of lead,
'russian blue called ferric ferrocyanid, and having the formula Fe,(Fe(Cl\) and barytes. These are generally mixed in the following proportions: chromate of lead,
Application filed March 26, 1920. Serial No. 369,078.
Lard 8 parts Soap 1 part Yellow paint powder 1 part Green paint powder 1 part The lard and the soap act as a vehicle which gives the final composition a salve like character, and also serve to attract the insects to the composition upon which they feed. Any other suitable ingredients may be used which will accomplish the same result, and furthermore, the proportions in my composition can be varied considerably with more or less successful results. The ingredients are mixed thoroughly together in any order, preferably with the aid of heat.
I would state in conclusion that while the example described constitutes a. practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the aforementioned cictails since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the ap ended claim.
Iaving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
An insecticide, wntaining lard, soap, chromate of lead, ferric fcrrocyanid, and barytes in about the proportions s ecified.
ANTONE C'ONSTXNTIN.
