Be it knownthat we, FREDRICK J. MILLER and ARTHUR H. MILLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Silver City, in the county of Mills and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Paintbrushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. The invention relates to fountain paint brushes and container for supplying paint to the brush and has for its object to provide a paint brush to which paint is conveyed through a flexible tube and to provide a spring actuated lever on the brush for compressing the flexible tubing for cutting off the supply of paint, said spring actuated lever being controlled by the thumb of the operator.

A further object is to provide a pliable container for the paint which is adapted to be carried by the operator and which is provided with spring actuated plates for forcing the paint out of the container to the brush.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a pliable paint container which container is provided with a'looped strap 2 adapted to go over the head and shoulders of the operator, there being a strap 3 carried at the lower end of the paint container for additionally securing the container to the operator. Disposed on each side of the container 1 are plates 4 which plates 4 are forced inwardly toward each other so as to force the paint from the container by means of Specification of Letters Patent.

springs 5, which springs are pivotally connected as at 6 to the plates 4 and are provided with coils 7 which arch the upper end of the paint container 1 and force the arms 8 inwardly. The paint is forced from the flexible pipe 10 to the handle end 11 of a paint brush 12. The paint brush is provided with a longitudinally disposed aperture 13, through which aperture the branch 14 of a rubber pipe 15 passes. The rubber pipe 15 terminates in branches 16, which branches are disposed in the bristles 17 of the brush and to which bristles the paint is conveyed so that the same may be utilized for painting. By providin the branches 16 and making the same of pFiable material it will be seen that they will convey the paint to a point adjacent the ends of the bristles and at the same time will be flexible enough so as to not interfere with the painting operation. Pivotally secured as at 18 to one side of the brush handle is a lever 19, which lever is provided with an L-shaped arm 20 disposed in a transverse slot 21 of the handle 11. The. arm 22 of the L-shaped member normally compresses the pipe 14 so that paint will not be fed to the bristles, this compression of the pipe 14 being caused by the coiled spring 23, which is interposed between the thumb engaging portion 24 of the lever 19 and the recess 25 in the handle of the brush. During a painting operation, when it is desired to feed additional paint to the bristles, the operator depresses thumb engaging member 24 and allows paint to be forced into the bristles 17 by means of the pressure applied to the sides of the container 1 by the plates 4.

From the above it will be seen that a fountain paint brush is provided wherein the action is positive and wherein the feeding of paint to the brush will be uniform and under control of the operator at all times.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A fountain paint brush comprising a paint brush having flexible tubing through which paint is conveyed through a flexible hose, said flexible hose being connected to a paint container, said paint container being formed from a pliable material and provided with means whereby the container may be secured to the body of an operator, means for compressing the flexible container, said means comprising plates engaging each side of the container and springs arching the container and having their arms pivotally connected to the plates at points spaced from each other and substantially centrally of the vplates, in relation to their upper and lower edges. a
