To all whom it may concern Y Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. AD LsoN,a citizen of the United States of America, residing'at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incandescent-Lamp Locks, of which the following is a full, clear,

and exact description.

. This invention relates to improvements in electric light bulb sockets, one of the objects being to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive socket from which a bulb cannot be removed, excepting by an authorized person.

' I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novelj features of which I will finally claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a sectionalfview, partly in ele-l vatlonof an embodiment of my invention;

Fig. 4 is a side elevation thereof;and

Fig. 5 is a top plan View of the rotatable sleeve which forms part of my invention.

As herein arranged my invention consists of a bulb holding member 6 made up of a head 7 and a threaded socket 8, a supportv for the said bulb holding member being indicated by 9, which is comprised ofa plug portion 10, to engage a standard socket l1, and a threaded sleeve 12 tobe engaged by the socket portion 8 of the bulb support. Further elements consist of a shell member 13 carried by theplug member or portion 10, and a sleeve 14; which is rotatably sup-' ported by the shell 13, andarranged to engage the socket 11. As can be seen, the plug carriesa conductor 15 to contact with the terminal 16 of a bulb 17,

Under ordinary conditions the bulb holder consisting of the head 7 and socket 8 will freely rotate within the shell 13, hence after the bulb is screwed thereinto said bulbcannot be removed for the reason that said bulb holder will rotate. In other words, should the bulb be rotated in a direction for the removal thereof the socket portion'8 will be .screwed off the threaded portion 12 of the plug 10 and rest upon'the shoulder 19 of.

To remove the bulbthe bulb support will be held against rotation by a shiftable device,-consisting of the sleeve 14.-. Under ordinary conditions the sleeve 14 will be 'se- I cured'to the socket llby a clamp20 which acts to'hold the sleeve against downward movement. The clamp is operated by a screw 21 having a head '22 of special shape requiring a key of a similar shape to operate it to release'or tighten the clamp Solong. asthe sleeve 14:. is in itsraised position, the' socket holder will freely rotate and the bulb cannot'be removed.

To remo'vethe bulb, the sleeve 14 W be shifted or lowered to cause a pin 23 carried thereby to e'ngag'e one of a number of notches-24 in the head 7 of the bulb holder, after whichthe bulb "can beremoved, for the reason that said bulb holder'will be held with an-iangularly fdisposed opening 25 through which the pin 23"passes into an elongated slot 26 in the flange portion 27 of the plug 10. The slot 26 in the flange 27 extends from the upper surface to the lower surface thereof. When the shell 14 is rotated, as per the arrow in Fig. 2, pin 23 will pass through slot 26 and engage a notch 24 in the head 7 after the bulb has been rotated to a small degree. After the pin 23 engages a notch, the bulb 17 can be removed as the bulb holder will be held against rotation.

To release the clamp in order that sleeve 14 can be moved downwardly, a special key, to fit thespecial head of the screw, will be employed.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination with a standard socket.

for electric light bulbs, a plug to engage the threaded bushing of said socket, a threaded sleeve carried by the plug, a rotatable bulb support consisting of a threaded socket member engaging said threaded sleeve, a head carried by the socket member, and providedwith a plurality of notches, a rotatable sleeve surrounding the plug and bulb-support, a

pin carried by the sleeve to engage sald' notches to prevent the rotation of the bulbsupport, and releasable means to secure said sleeve against rotation when said sleeve 1s not in use to prevent rotation of said bulbsupport.

2. In combination with a standard socket for electric light bulbs, a plug to engage the threaded bushing or said socket, said plug having a slot in the periphery thereof, said slot being located at an angle relative to the axis of the plug, a threaded sleeve carried by the plug, a rotatable bulb-support c0n-,

sisting of a threaded socket member engaging said threaded sleeve, a head carried by the socket-member having a plurality of notches therein, a shell member carried by the plug having a slot to coincide with the slot in the wall of said plug, a sleeve rotatably supported by said shell-member adapted for movement longitudinally thereof, a pin carried by the sleeve and passing through the slot in the "shell member and into the alining slot in the plug, arranged to engage a notch in thehead member when said sleeve is moved downwardly, and releasable means to, lock the sleeve against movement when said sleeveis not in use to prevent rotation of the bulb support.

3. In combination with a standardsocket for electriclight bulbs, a plug to engage the v threaded bushing of said socket, said plug having a slot in the periphery thereof, said slot being located at an angle relative to the axis of the plug, a threaded sle'eve'carried by the plug, a rotatable bulb support con engage a notch in the head member ,when said sleeve 18 moved downwardly, and means to secure the sleeve to the standard socket when said sleeve is not in use to prevent rotation of the bulb support, V
