To all whom tit-may concern:

Be it known that I, ARV-ID H. NERO, a citizenof the United States of America, and residing at New Britain, in the county of -Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and Improved Electric- Lamp Socket, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to electric lamp sockets and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and eiiicient device for locking a lamp in inserted position.

showing the operation of this locking device; Fig. 3 is a detached partial'section showing the elements of the locking device; Fig. 4 is a detached elevation of the shell terminal and locking plate of the socket; and Fig. 5 is a vertical section through the shell of a lamp socket showing a modified form of locking screw, the latter being shown detached from its boss.

The present invention may be applied to sockets of various types, but is here applied for the sake of illustration, to a key socket of ordinary type, comprising the usual cap 10 and shell ll'forming a casing through which projects the usual switch key 12. The insulating socket body 13 within the casing carries the screw shell 14 forming one of the terminals for the threaded base 15 of an incandescent lamp 16 which is screwed therein. An insulating lining 17 surrounds the screw shell 14 and insulates it from the shell 11 of the casing.

To prevent the unauthorized removal of a lamp from the socket after insertion, I form an aperture 18 in the screw shell IXiat a convenient point,-preferably in line below the I key 12, since the latter is always placed in accessible position,

As here shown the clamping plate is riveted at its upper end 20 to the screw shell and its lower end is roughened at 21 to aflord abetter grip upon the lamp base. 11 in register with the aperture 18, and pro-- lamp it is of course only necessary to turn the screw outward thus releasing the pressure upon the plate 19, and permitting the lamp to be unscrewed. As a simple modification of this type of locking screw I have shown in Fig. 5 spindle 26, the head of which is provided with a cain face 27 bear ing against a cooperating cam face 28 on the inner end of the boss 29. The pitch of these cam faces is such that the head of the locking screw is advanced and retracted more rapidly than would be the case with screw 22 above described, unless the pitch of the thread of the latter were made unusually high. I claim as my invention 1. An electric lamp socket comprising a screw shell terminal having an aperture in the side thereof, a clamping plate secured to said shell and having a portion in register with said aperture, a socket casing surrounding said screw shell, insulating tween said termlnal and casing, in combination with a locking screw carried by said casing in register with the aperture in the terminal and bearing upon the outer face of said insulating material but in register with the free end of the clamping five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
