citizen of the United States, residin at De-' troit,in thecounty of Wayne and. gtate of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Assembling-Cradles, of which the following is a specification; I
My invention relates to assembling cradles intended for use where assembling operations are performed on apparatus traveling along tracks or runways. My invention is particularly applicable to devices of this on the'bottom of the apparatus, my device is employed to receive the trucks orwheels carrying the apparatus; means are provided for clamping the apparatus in place on the cradle and then by releasing the locking devices with which'the cradle'is rovided, the

The framemembere is provided at 12 with holes through it to receive'the double locking bolt 13 pivotally connected at 14 with a foot lever 15. The lever 15 is pivotallyconnected at 16 with the back leg of the base 11, and projects through the frontleg of said base and terminates in a foot pad 17 in position for convenientoperation bythe workman. A spring 18 holds the-lever. 15 in its'upper position unless it isforcibly depressed. The front ends'of the flanges 6 and 7 are enlarged radiallvas indicated at 6 and Y, and forms stopsfor. engaging the front rollers 8 and 9 to prevent rotation of the cradle beyond its position of alinement with the tracksl andl2. After the operations required have been performed on the bottom of the apparatus, the foot lever is depressed and the eradle is rotated to bring it to normal position with its two sections of track 3 in alinement with the stationary sections of track. lVhen the rotation of the cradle has brought the enlarged flanges 6 and 7 against the front rollers 8 and 9,. the latch 20 at once engages the pin 19 to prevent rebound of the cradle and also to prevent any tendency of the cradle to jump from the front rollers. The engagement of the latch 20 also serves to hold the cradle in positonso that the bolt 13 .may enter the locking holes 12 thus securing the cradle against rotation until its rotationis' again desired. j
In the drawing I have indicatedin dotted lines, diagrammatically a-motor 25 in position on the cradle, it being held in said positionby the rollers 26 so that it may be moved along the tracks to place the motor in position on the cradle. To hold the motor in the position indicated on the cradle, I prefer touse clamping devices as inclicated at 27 so as to prevent the motor or other work being assembled, from falling 01f the cradle when rotating. These clamps extend from under. the front rail 3 over any convenient part of the apparatus being assembled. I
While I have shown my invention in the particular embodiment abovedescribed, I do not however limit myself to this exact construction in carrying out my invention, as I may employ equivalents thereof known to the art at the time of the filing of this application without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the
combination of circular frame members, tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for holding said members in desired position on said rollers, said membershaving outwardly projecting flanges and said rollers having grooves engaging said flanges.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of circular frame members, tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for bold in said membersindesired position on said ro lers, said locking devices comprising a foot lever, and a locking'bolt connected therewith and extending into one of said frame members.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of circular frame members,
tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for holding said members in desired position on said rollers, said locking devices comprising a foot lever, a latch for engaging one of said members, and a link connecting said foot lever and said latch.
4:. Ina device of the class described, the combination of circular frame members, tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for holding said members in desired position on said rollers,said members having outwardly prolatch for engaging one of said; members,
and a link connecting said foot lever-and said latch.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination ofcircular frame members, tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members-and locking devices for holding said members in desired position on said rollers, said locking devices comprising a foot lever, a, "locking bolt connected with said lever for-engaging one of said members, a spring connected with said lever tending to hold said bolt in locking engagement, a pivoted latch for engaging-one of said members, anda link connecting said latcheand said foot lever.
7. In a device of theclass described, the
combination. of circular frame members, tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for holding said members in desired position on said rollers, said members having outwardly projecting flanges and said rollers having grooves engaging said flanges, and said looking devices comprising a pivoted foot lever,
a locking bolt connected with said lever for,
engaging one of said members, ;a spring connected with said lever tending to; hold said bolt in locking engagement, a pivoted latch for engaging one ofs'aid members,
and a link connecting said latch and said foot lever.
8. In a device of the class described, the combination of circular frame members,
tracks secured to said frame members and 7 extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for holding said members in desired position on said rollers, said locking devices comprising a foot lever, and a locking bolt connected therewith and extending into one of said frame members, said frame member having two positions of engagement with said bolt.
9. In a device of the class described, the combination of circular frame members, tracks secured to said frame members and extending between them, rollers supporting said members, and locking devices for holding said membersin either of two positions as desired on said rollers, said locking devices comprising a pivoted foot lever, a locking bolt connected with said lever for engaging one of said members in either of saidpositions, and a spring tending to hold said bolt in engaging position.
