ANGLE-COOK HANDLE. I
Application filed October 15, 1919; Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Angle-Cock Handles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to angle cocks, more particularly as employed in connection with fluid pressure brake equipments. 2 i
It has heretofore been proposed to provide an angle cock device having a handle adapted and closed positions of the cock so as to prevent the accidental movement of the cook.
With the above construction, however, it is possible for an unauthorized person to turn the cock and thus render an accident liable to happen, since the turning of the cock from its open to its closed position, especially near prevents the brakes from the usual manner. 7
The principal object of my invention is to overcome the above difliculty.
being operated in In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of an'angle cock device with my invention appliedthereto, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the detachable handle applied to the locking member.
The invention is shown as applied to an angle cock device of the type having a self locking handle, such as disclosed in Reissue Patent No. 12,574 of Inches and Hosker,
dated Dec. 11, 1906, and comprising a cock body 1 and a locking member 2 pivotally mounted thereon.
' According to my invention, the usual handle portion of the locking member 2 is cut off leaving a short stub end 3 anda hole 4 is drilled therein.
A detachable handle 5, which can be car-- ried by the operator, is provided having an upper forked portion 6 adapted to engage outside of the flanges 7 of the lockingmem her 2.
Beneath the forked portion 6 is a tongue Specification of Letters Patent.
tomove the member 2 the head end of the train,
8 having a pin 9 mounted therein and adapted to engage the hole 4.
en it isdesired to manipulate the cook. the handle 5 is applied, so that the pin 9 en gages within the hole 1 and then the member 2 can be raised by lifting the handle so as to disengage the projection 10 from the stop 11 on the cock body. The cock may then be turned by operating the handle in the usual manner.
When the cock has been movedtothe desired position, the handle 5 is removed andthe member 2 will be locked in the engagement of one of the with the adjacent stop 11.
Since the stub end 3 is short, it is difficult without employing the handle 5, so that an unauthorized manipulation of the cock is practically prevented.

projections 10 Having now described my invention, what 7 I claim as new, and ters Patent, is a 1. The combination with an angle cock device comprising a cock and a lockin memdesire to secure by Lether pivotally'mounted on the cook or opcrating the cock, of a detachable handle adapted to beapplie'd to said memberfor operating same.
2. The combination with an angle cock device having a member pivotally mounted thereon for operating the cock and provided with a projecting stub having a hole therethrough, with a pin for engaging within said hole to of a detachable handle provided:
permit the manipulation of said member by the handle." c
3. The combination with an angle cock device having a member pivotally mounted thereon for operatingthe cock and having a projecting stub and vertical flanges, of a detachable handle provided with a forked portion adapted to engage the flanges and a 2 pin for engaging a hole in V tongue having a the stub.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 2 I my hand. 7 I
