Description

P. 1. OTHS.
WlNDOW SHADE BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 9.1921.
1,38'7,6 1 O Patented Aug. 16, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER J. OTHS, OF EAST HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
WIN DOW-SHADE BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, PETER J. Crisis, acitizen of the United States, residing at East Haven. in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in lVindow-Shade Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same. and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a perspective view of a window shade bracket constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2, a face view of the same.
Fig. 3, a side view of the same.
Fig. at, a top or plan view of the same.
Fig. 5, a sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6, a perspective view of a modified form of bracket-arm.
This invention relates to improvements in window shade brackets and particularly to brackets which are adjustable to accommodate shade rollers of different lengths, the object of the invention being to produce a bracket which may be readily adjusted and when adjusted firmly held in position, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
These brackets are arranged for rights and lefts and include a housing 5 formed with flanges 6 by which they may be secured in place. The side walls 7 of the housing are formed with vertically-arranged slots 8 for the passage of an arm 9 of a window shade bracket 10. This bracket is located in position by means of a latch 11 formed with a lip 12 offset to enter a slot 13 formed for it in the side wall of the housing and with a locking-nose 14 adapted to snap over the opposite edge of the housing. This latch is formed with a clearance-slot 15 for the passage of the arm 9 and with a gripping finger 16 to engage with the rear edge of the arm 9. Preferably. the face of the finger 16 and the rear face of the arm 9 will be roughened, so as to firmly interlock. The latch 11 is struck outward from a plate 17 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 16, 1921. 1921. Serial No. 476,185.
which may be provided at its outer end with a yoke 18 to support a curtain pole.
In attaching the device, the housing is secured in place and the arm 9 passed through the slots 8 and through the clearance opening 15 and adjusted to proper position; the latch 11, being engaged with the side wall of the housing, is turned toward the housing so as to hookover the opposite edge thereof, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. This brings the finger 18 against the rear face of the arm 9 and firmly locks that arm against movement through the housing. As occasion may require, the arm 9 may be adjusted to accommodate shade rollers of different lengths.
The brackets 10 are not formed with open slots as usual for the spring end of the shade roller. but are formed with rectangular openings 19, so that danger of the shade roll becoming disengaged from the bracket is avoided.
I thus produce, in a very simple way, an adjustable shade roller which may be easily adjusted as desired. and. when adjusted, firmly held in position. The three parts are readily struck up from sheet-metal and, therefore, can be produced at a very low cost for manufacture.
I claim:
1. A window shade bracket comprising a housing formed on opposite sides with vertically-arranged slots, a shade-bracket having an arm extending through said slots. a
latch engaged with one side of said housing, formed with a clearance-opening for said arm and provided with a nose adapted to engage with the opposite side of said housing.
2. A window shade bracket comprising a housing formed on opposite sides with slots, a window shade bracket having an arm extending through said slots, a latch having its inner end engaged with one side of said housing. formed with a clearance-opening for said arm, and with a latch adapted to hook over the opposite edge of said housing, said latch also formed with curtain pole supports.
3. A window shade bracket comprising a housing, adapted to be secured in position, formed on opposite sides with vertical slots, a window shade bracket having an arm extending through said slots, a latch engaged In testimony whereof, I have signed this with one side of said housing, formed with specification in the presence of two subscribolearance-slot for said arm, and with a fining witnesses.
ge the adjacent faces of said finger and PETER J. OTHS. arm roughened, said latch also formed with Witnesses:
V a nose adapted to hook over the opposite JOHN E. GARRITTY,
side of said housing. MALCOLMVP. NICHOLS.
