' ment of the structural members composing same for securing such pulleys in their mounting frames; the object of thepresent invention being, to provide an effective and inexpensive housing that will avoid the use of screws or special devices for securingthe sash pulley in its mounting frame; another vobject vbeing to provide a sash pulley housing that will not be curtailed in efficiency by a considerable range in relative thickness of the material used for making the frame member in which the opening for the sash pulley to seat in is formed; a further object being to provide a sash pulley that may be installed in a window frame after it is completed as easily and expeditiously as this can be done while the frame is in course of construction.
I attain these and other objects by mecha'- nism such as illustrated Vin the accompanying drawing, in'which;-
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a pulley embodying my invention, seated and secured in the opening formed for it to lit in in a window frame member, which latter is shown in Jfragmentary vertical section; Fig. 2 is a View similar to Fig. 1 but showing the pulley entering the frame opening with the housing members relatively positioned to facilitate inserting the pulley and bringing it to seated position in said opening; Fig. 3 is a view in rear elevation of the supporting member shown in F ig. l, detached from the other parts of the device; Fig. 4: is a view in front elevation of the sheave bearing hood member of the housing shown in Fig'. l, detached from the lsupporting member and in the position the sheave and its journal would occupy indicated in dotted outline; Fig. 5 is a View similar to Fig. l, but showing a pulley embodying my invention in a modified form.
lAlthough I have shown my improved housing as formed of sheet metal, it will be understood that in accordance with well known practice, the housing members, or either of them, may be formed by other means than sheet metal, and while for convenience in illustration I have utilized a fragment of a wooden or kalamein window frame, it will be-understood that my device is intended for use in all frames in which pulleys are a requirement, irrespective of their character, the use to which they may be put or the nature of the material used in their construction.
Referring to Figs. l to 4l inclusive, of the drawing, A represents the-'supporting member of a sash pulley housing embodying my invention, comprising a front plate a which may be extended to engage a front face of a window frame member W, and is provided with a central aperture I for the passage of a sheave C, and a pair of side walls a which Aextend rearwardly from plate a and are turned in at their ends .to meet,

Aside from these differences in form and pu pose of its housing members, the device in this modiiied form, in the arrangement of its parts and manner of use as well as in the operation required for installing it, is substantially similar' to the form ot pulley already described. Other modifications of the invention here in disclosed may be made and need not be illustrated, as modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention as pointed out in the claims, will be obvious to those skilled in the art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is l. A sash pulley comprising a sheave, a housing member adapted to tit into an opening in a window trame member, and provided with means to engage the front tace of the trame member to limit the movement of said housing member in one direction into said opening, and with means to sustain the thrust of said housing member against the end of said opening, and a hood member to which said sheave is journaled, carried by and movable relative to said housing mem ber, to releasably engage a rear face of the trame member and lock said housing member to the frame member irrespective of a considerable range in thickness of said trame member.
2. A sash pulley comprising a sheave, a housing member adapted to fit into an opening in a window trame member, and provided with means to engage the front face of the trame member to limit the movement ot said housing member in one direction into said opening, and with means to sustain the thrust of said housingmember against the end of said opening', a hood member to which the sheave is journaled, carried by and movable relative to said housing membei', to releasably engage the rear tace of the 'frame member and lock said housing member to the frame member irrespective of a considerable range in thickness of said trame member, and means to releasably maintain said hood member in the relative position selected tor locking said housing member to the trame member, and releasably secure the pulley in the opening in'said frame member.

A sash pulley adapted to seat in an opening in a window frame member, comprising a sheave bearing housing having a supporting element adapted to tit into the opening in the trame member and provided with means to enga-ge the front face of the trame member to limit the movement of said element in one direction into said opening, and with means to sustain the thrust of said element againstthe end ot said opening, a hood element, to which the sheave is journaled, adapted to fit into the opening in the frame member and provided with means to sustain the thrust of said hood element against the end ot said opening, connected to and held in relatively movable engagement by said supporting element and adapted to releasably engage the rear face of the frame member and loclr the supporting element to the frame member irrespective of a considerable range in thickness ot said trame member, and means to maintain said supporting and hood elements in locked relation with said trame member.

A sash pulley adapted to seat in an opening in a window trame member comprising, a sheave, a housing for the sheave, having a front element, adapted to lit into the opening' in said trame member, provided with a centrally apertured front plate, side walls, connected at their ends to form an upper and a lower wall to sustain the thrust ot said front element against the ends of said opening, and provided with means to engage a iront face ot the frame member and limit the movement ot said element in one direction into said opening, a rear element adapted to serve as a hood for the sheave, having suitably connected side walls, between and to which said sheave is journaled, provided with means to engage a rear face ot the trame member, means to connect and maintain the rear element in relatively movable engagement with the i'ront element, means to take and to sustain the thrust oi the rear element against the front element and means to limit the movement of said rear element relative to said front element, whereby the housing elements may be relatively positioned to 'facilitate seating' the pulley in the opening in the' window trame member and securing it in said opening' by said housing elements.

A sash pulley adapted to seat in an openino' in a window frame member comprising, a sheave, a housing :tor the sheave, having a front element, adapted to lit into the opening in said trame member, provided with a centrally apertured front plate, side walls., connected at their ends to form an upper and a lower wall to sustain the thrust ot said front element against the ends oi said opening, and with means to engage a iront tace ot the trame member and limit the movement of said trent element in one direction into said opening, a rear element, adapted to serve as a hood for the sheave, having side walls, between and to which said sheave is journaled, provided with means to engage a rear tace ot the frame member, means on the side walls of said housing elements to connect and maintain the rear element in relatively movable engagement with the front element, means on said side Walls to take and to sustain the thrust of the rear element against the front element and means on said .Walls to limit the movement of the Y `*rear element relative to the front element,
