LICENSE-NUMBER-PLATE HOLDER.
Application filed May 4, 1921. Serial No. 466,717.
To all whomt't may concern."
, Be it known that I, \VILLIAM' R. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville,-' in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in License- Number-Plate Holders-of which the following is a s ecification, reference being had to the acco panying drawings.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a very simple and eflicient holder for the license number plate'of an automobile, whereby the plate may be supported detachably in position, and in such wise that by removing the top flange of the holder,
- the number plate may be withdrawn.
Another purpose is the provision of a main or base plate provided with a marginal overlying flange on its bottom and end edges and positioned rearwardly, between which and the body of the plate the number plate may be inserted, there being a removable top w-flange or strip straddling the upper edge of'the base or main plate and having tongues engaging under transversely disposed straps struck up from the base top, flange in position. 1
Another purpose is to provide a holder of this general character and for the purpose indicated, which maybe manufactured fora relatively low cost and sold for a reasonab-le profit, and adapted to hold the plate, to hold the license number plate, so that it cannot be jarred or displaced owing to the vibrations of the machine, the struck up straps likewise acting to prevent the top flange from being 'displaced by the vibrations of the machine.
While the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a reduction of the invention to a more practical ,form for commercial purposes, the invention maybe susceptible-oi changes, and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
The inventien comprises further features and'combination ofp'arts, aswill be heremf after set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. In thedrawings v Figure 1 is a-view in elevatloirof the license number plate holder, showlng the number plate in position therein, and showing the slits (which cause the transverse straps to be formedlin dotted lines.

and end edges. .The license number plate is designed to slide in position between the marginal flange and the face of the inain plate, by inserting the number plate in' position at the top. The main plate is pro-v vided with elongated slots 3 ad'acent its ginal portions of these slots 3: are disposed as shown clearly in,Fig.,4, so as to counter sink the heads of the screws 4, which fasten the main. plate in position on the automobile. or on the body, or any other suitable place.
