I 2 SHEETS-SHEET 2. J5- A2..
UNITED STATES CASIMIR RYSIEK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TABLECLOTH-STRETCHER.
Application filed March 21, 1921.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CAsIMIR RYSIEK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tablecloth- Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to devices for stretching fabrics, and more particularly to a device for stretching circular table cloths, center pieces and the like or those of a shape other than rectangular, my invention being adapted to oval or irregular shaped table cloths7 center pieces, and the like in connection with which ironing as done at the present time is a tedious unsatisfactory job more often attended by failure than success.
The primary object of my invention is the provisionof a device of this character which may be readily set up and taken down, and which may be easily and quickly adapted to cloths of various' shapes and sizes within diametrical limits of the stretching frame.
`With these and other objects more clearly appearing in the following description my invention resides in the stretching device shown in the accompanying drawing, which forms aI part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the complete apparatus in operative position, Fig..2 is a side elevation thereof,
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the supporting frame taken substantially on line 3 3 of Fig. 2, y
Fig. 4 is an enlarged radial section through the stretching frame,
Fig. 5 is a detail side view of one of thel stretching hoo-ks, and
Fig. 6 is a detail side view of one of the connecting links.
Referring now to these figures, the stretching frame, forming a part of my invention and which is preferably circular in form and composed of two substantially semicircular sections, `includes an outer wire rim whose sections 10 and 11 may be joined in operative position by means of tubular couplings 12, preferably secured;- to the Section 11 and adapted to receive the free ends of the sec;

tion 10. The sections 13 and 14 of the hub, each section of which is connected to its respective rim` section by a series of radial stretching arms- 15, are preferably formed of wood or similar material so that the inner ends of these arms 15 may be connected thereto in some simple effective manner as for instance by means of staples 16, and section 141 is furthermore provided with a swinging hook 17 adapted to engage a staple or eye 18 of the section 13 so that with the ends of the rim section 10 disposed witl1- in the tubular couplings 12, and the hook 17 is engaged as shown in Fig. 1, the two sections of the stretching frame will be ef feotively held in the operative position. By disconnecting the hook 17, the sections may be readily detached and superimposed upon one another for storage within minimum space.
In the operative position of the two sections of the stretching frame, this frame as a whole is adapted to be supported upon a stand shown particularly in Figs. 2 and 3 and including an upright in upper and lower sections 19 and 20, the latter of which has an upstanding dowel pin 21, and the former of which has at its lower end a bore to receive the pin so that the upper section 19 can in the effective position be rotated. The :upper .section has apertured outstanding brackets 22 adapted to receive the depending angular inner 'ends 23 of a series of outstanding and upwardly inclined supporting arms 24, each of which has at its upper end an angular upward extension 25 shaped and adapted to receive 4therein the rim of the stretching frame.
The lower section. 20 of the supporting standhas a lower cross piece 26, to whichthe lower end of the upright is secured anc. to which it is also braced by inclined brace arms 27 in diametrically opposing relation.
Other brace arms 28 also serve to assist in holding the upright in effective position, these latter brace arms 'extending'at right angles to the brace arms 27 and being hingedly connected at one side at 29 to the lower section 20 of the upright so as to fold laterally thereagainst in the inoperative position. Each of these brace arms 28 has a hook 30 at its other side to engage an and each is fashioned with a terminal eye l 33 just inside of the rrn so that the several site end bent to orm a helix 38 Y frame,
arms may 'be connected in properly spaced relation adjacent to their outer ends by connecting or spacing links 34 whose bent ends 35 engage the eyes 33.
Each of the radial arms l5 is also provided with one or more, `pref'erably two, stretching hooks 36, which extend between the arms, each hook having a curved and sharpened free end 37 and having its oppodisposed arcund and adapted to frictionally grip the respective stretching arm, erably projecting inwardly toward the hub oil` the stretching frame so thatwhen the free ends of the hooks around the stretching frame 'are engaged with a plurality of points around the Aperipheral edge of the circular fabric to be stretched, they can yield but slightly toward the center of the frame but will be held in non-slipping relation upon the stretching arms.A i
lt is thus obvious that in use it is simply necessary to engage 'the stretching hooks around the stretching trarne with a plural'- ity of points around the periphery of the lpiece to upper surface of, the stretching frame after the latter has" been disposed. upon the supporting arms 24. The operator may then proceed around the stretching shifting the hooks outwardly'along the "stretching arms l5 until the fabric is properlyV stretched in all directions, after whichfit left to dry.
It is further obvious that dueto this cony struction circular and oval fabrics such as table cloths, center pieces, doilies, napkinsI and the like may be effectively stretched and dried, with or without scalloped or other irregular edges, and with or without lace or other embroidery therearound.
It is furthermore obvious that the device as a whole may be readily and quickly set up in. operative position and as readily taken down and stored in minimum space when `'the desiredcperation has been completed,
and it becomes apparent that due tothese several functions and advantages my inve-rr tion presents an apparatus which is highly effective and will be'strong and durable in claim:
l. A. stretching Jtrarne of circular form having a hub and a rim, a plurality of radial arms extending `between the hub and vthe rim, and stretching hoolrs on the arms and extending therebetween arc. .d rhe frame, said hooks having means to engage the helix prefbe stretched, the fabricbeing laid' ,u pon 'the 35 andiuadjustably hold the same on the arms as described. v
Q. A stretching frame of circular form having a hub and a rim, a plurality of radial arms between the hub and the rim, and stretching hooks-having means to frictionally adjustably engage and support the same on the arms.
