UNITED STATES GEORGE OUSTERWOF MONROE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOE-CALKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,618, dated May 6, 1873; applica l March 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE CUsTER, of Monroe, in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Horseshoe-Galks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specication and to the letters and Iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a front view of my horseshoe-calli. Fig. 2 is a side View of the sanne. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same.
This invention has relation to the construction of heel-callas, of steel, for horseshoes; and it consists iu providing each ealk with a welding-lug, raised centrally ou its upper surface, said lug being pointed at its upper end, having parallel front and back faces, and having lateral notches in its edges at its base portion.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter a indicates the body of the calk, somewhat trapezoidal in form, or tapering from above downward. The upper surface is level or parallel with the bottom, and from its center extends PATENT OE upward the welding-lug b, whi is formed with parallel sides c c, the edges l d being inclined toward each other and me i ing to form an angular extremity, e. The e ges d d are each notched at the base, as at so that the lug will be held securely in the 1 `lding operation. The upper surface of the` all; forms a level shoulder, n, surrounding th base of the lug b, which is designed to t u against the body of the shoe in welding, bra ne the calk against a strain in any direction. l
What I claim as new, and de re to secure by Letters Patent, is- 4 l The heel-call; described, cons ting of the body a and the central angular having parallel sides, and incline ledges forming the angular upper end c, an i notched at the base at z, said lug being su ounded by the level shoulder n, substantiall is specified. In testimony that I claim the ove I have hereunto subscribed my name in he presence of two witnesses. GEO. l
